Don't Mess With Texas: Part Deux

Thank God we have real men like Abbott to protect the citizenry of Texas.

Texas Guv Surrenders to Conspiracy Nuts
Gov. Greg Abbott wants everyone to know that not even the U.S. military can mess with Texas.
Texas’s governor moved this week to protect his state from an Obama-led military takeover.

Governor Greg Abbott, who decisively beat Wendy Davis in the 2014 to take Rick Perry’s job, announced on Tuesday that he’s going to sic the Texas Rangers on the U.S. military.

Not really. But it sure sounds that way.

What’s actually going on is U.S. troops are doing training exercises—called Jade Helm 15—in several states throughout the Southwest, including Texas.

The mission will involve Special Operations forces moving through the Southwest and training for covert missions. A declassified map posted online in March (whose legitimacy The Washington Post confirmed) identified several of those states as “hostile” and “leaning hostile.” That isn’t particularly unusual, as Dan Lamothe explained at The Washington Post, but it has a small number of Texans—including, apparently, the governor—totally freaking out and (arguably) overreacting.

Conspiracy theories about the training exercise have spread through cyberspace with all due speed, as such theories are wont to do.

And, naturally, Alex Jones, of conspiracy theory-touting Infowars fame, is involved.

The Drudge Report aggregated a number of stories about the exercises, directing readers to Infowars—including a March 24 story that said the trainings in Utah and Texas led observers “to fears that traditionally conservative areas may be a simulated target for future domestic operations.”

Yipes!

That story also said “military scholars” have started hypothesizing that such troops “would be used to target political groups such as the Tea Party.”

On March 26, Drudge linked to another InfoWars story suggesting the operations could be preparing for the implementation of martial law, which would certainly be big news indeed.

Those stories and others drew traffic and stoked fears.

On April 27, Raw Story reported that an Army spokesman appeared before a packed crowd at a Bastrop County Commission meeting in Texas to try to try to quell the citizens’ anxieties.

“The Army spokesman assured participants that the United Nations was not involved in the operations, but the crowd jeered when he told them he was not familiar with Agenda 21,” wrote Travis Gettys on the site.

That little meet ’n’ greet didn’t have its desired effect.

The next day, Abbott announced that he had directed Major General Gerald “Jake” Betty, commander of the Texas State Guard, to monitor Jade Helm 15.

In a letter to Betty, he said he made the move “[t]o address concerns of Texas citizens and to ensure that Texas communities remain safe.”

The Texas military has three branches, as its website details, including the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard, as well as the Texas State Guard. The governor, in this case, is its commander-in-chief.

And per The Houston Chronicle, it hasn’t completely ironed out all the specific details of how exactly it will monitor the U.S. Army.

Abbott’s decision to err on the side of Alex Jones has drawn a bit of joshing from the left.

“Abbott’s pandering to paranoid, secessionist fools would be comical if it wasn’t so costly and frightening,” said Glenn Smith, the director of the Progress Texas PAC. “Abbott has the state military confronting the U.S. military because some nutcases fear, what, armed U.S. takeover of Texas? Seriously? What next? Will Abbott call out the troops to protect us from alien abduction, abominable snowmen and Bigfoot, or should I say an invasion of Bigfeet?”

Jason Stanford, a longtime Democratic Texas consultant and member of the Truman National Security Project, said Abbott’s move is great news for conspiracy-mongers everywhere.

“A lot of people think he’s more sensible than this, but he has yet to stop campaigning for a Republican primary that he won virtually unopposed,” he said. “Most Texans aren’t like this.”

That said, Abbott isn’t without defenders. Republican State Representative Jonathan Stickland defended the move enthusiastically and said Texans’ distrust of the Obama administration probably informed his decision. He said that the exercises have caused “justified concern.”

“I don’t want to instill panic,” he added. “I’ll tell you what’s scary is if we get to a place where it’s not normal to question our government or their motives. We should always be questioning government.”

And Matt Mackowiak, a Texas-based Republican consultant, said he would be surprised if Jade Helm 15 was a subversive plot to occupy Texas. But he added that he understands Texans’ concerns.

“It’s hard to know what’s true and what’s false,” he said. “Is every single conspiracy theory wrong? No. Most of them probably are.”

MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Sheriff’s Dept: Deputy thought they were going to kill him

ROBBINS, N.C., Feb. 24 — A sheriff’s deputy shot two Fort Bragg soldiers, killing one, after the two soldiers, both in civilian clothing, tried to disarm the deputy because they thought he was taking part in a role-playing training exercise, authorities said Sunday. The Moore County Sheriff’s Department said the deputy was “totally unaware” of the exercise.

THE SOLDIERS were taking part in a role-playing exercise that is part of the Special Forces Qualification Course, according to a statement from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department. They were carrying weapons, but they do not carry live ammunition during the exercise, Maj. Richard Patterson of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School told The Fayetteville Observer.

“The two soldiers were not in uniform. For various scenarios within the exercise, that’s not uncommon,” said a Special Forces spokesman. “They were going out to do reconnaissance of a target that was going to be used for a future mission in the exercise,” the spokesman said.

The newspaper reported that the soldiers were in a vehicle that was stopped by Deputy Randall Butler on a rural road northwest of Robbins on Saturday afternoon. Robbins is about 25 miles from the Fort Bragg reservation.

“One of the soldiers attempted to disarm the officer as the other was attempting to get a military weapon that the soldiers had in their possession,” a statement from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said. “The deputy believed that the two individuals intended on killing him.”

The Army said in a news release Sunday evening that the incident was a mistake. Civilians and authorities are often asked to assist in the training exercises, said Special Operations spokesman Major Gary Kolb.

Kolb said the soldiers were carrying a disassembled M-4 carbine rifle in a bag. It was unclear why Butler pulled their car over.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office was told a training exercise was underway, Kolb said. But he said the Army did not coordinate specifically with the sheriff’s office and Butler was likely unaware of it.

“In this instance, they were not informed about this, because the scenario itself was not intended to draw attention of the local authorities,” Kolb said.

In its release, the sheriff’s department said Butler was “totally unaware” of the exercise.

No charges had been filed Sunday. Butler was placed on administrative leave with pay.

UNDER INVESTIGATION

The soldiers were in a vehicle driven by a civilian who was playing the role of a resident of a fictitious country, Patterson said. He wouldn’t discuss further details of the incident because it was being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Army.

“It was definitely a misunderstanding, but we’re still looking at the procedures and actions taken. We can’t lay blame on anyone right now,” said the Special Forces spokesman.

The exercise, known as “Robin Sage,” is the 19-day final exam of the Special Forces Qualification Course. It tests skills in survival, tactics and dealing with people, as well as judgment, decision-making and ethics.

In previous Robin Sage sessions, law enforcement officials have helped the military by setting up road blocks. There was no immediate indication whether Butler was helping with Saturday’s exercise.

Patterson said the names of the dead and wounded soldiers wouldn’t be released until their relatives were notified.

The wounded soldier was listed in serious condition at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, according to the sheriff’s department.

On Thursday, former state Rep. Todd Smith, R-Euless, sent a letter to Abbott (and both the House and Senate in the Texas Legislature) accusing him of "pandering to idiots." Smith served in the Legislature for 16 years, told Abbott he was "horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn't have the backbone to stand up to those who do."

"I am appalled that you would give credence to the nonsense mouthed by those who instead make decisions based on Internet or radio shock jock driven hysteria. Is there ANYBODY who is going to stand up to this radical nonsense that is cancer on our State and Party?"

Yeah, it's not really about what can happen when operations aren't monitored, coordinated, and communicated correctly. (that Fort Bragg story was 2002 BTW).

A lot of people freaking out about this : Oh the horror. They are using the Texas state guard.
From article:
Over the past year, the Texas State Guard has been deployed several times to assist law enforcement in searching for missing or dead illegal immigrants who have become lost in the ranch lands of Brooks County (Falfurrias, Texas). The State Guard has been helpful in finding the bodies of illegal immigrants who have died trying to circumvent the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint, as Breitbart Texas previously reported. The illegal immigrants are often abandoned by their human smugglers and left to die of thirst or exposure in the harsh conditions of Brooks County.

Every time the military does any training that's not on a military base, someone screams about martial law and how Obama is going to take over, the dollar collapse and preparation for FEMA Camp residency. It happened a couple of years ago when helicopters buzzed Miami and Houston, this past December when black helicopters that were green buzzed Dallas. It happened a couple of years ago when Special Forces were in large scale training in West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. Every time, the wackos have rung the death knell of America and the takeover by the Obama Regime. It's just this is the first time an actual governor has been one of them.

I really gotta hand it to them on this one, though, in connecting the Walmart closures for "plumbing problems" to the exercise, noting that the storage containers behind Walmarts will be used to house the Chinese troops that will aid in the martial law takeover. Hey if you can put two-by-two in an Ark you can put the entire Chinese military in storage containers at Walmart.

You won't be displaying that Turtle smirk when you get put into shipping container and sent to China. Operation Jade Helm is for real! It is named after the woman who is directing it, Jade Helm. Not a very original name for a military operation of this magnitude. Jade Helm is the daughter of Matt Helm and Jane Fonda. Matt Helm was a ruthless American secret agent. He was a true patriot. Mitch Rapp learned his craft from the likes of Matt Helm.

Jade Helm inherited her intelligence, ruthlessness and cunning from her father. Unfortunately she also inherited her mother's Commie loving ways. Operation Jade Helm 15 will undoubtedly be a success. Soon most Americans will be wearing little blue vests and stocking shelves at WalMarts all across China. ⓯

Two of those are unverifiable conspiracy theories, two of those are verifiable reality, and one isn't even a thing.
