Re: 8.3 cummins white smoking and black when driving
I'd take it to a Cummins shop and nowhere else.I always used Cummins in Fort wayne, Ind. They were awesome, and saved me a ton of money with my engines. It was worth running from Cleveland to there, they always made sure everything was perfect before
I left, and would get me in quickly when I needed to.If there is antifreeze in the oil, chances are you may need to get the main and rod bearings replaced as well, common practice. No one knows a cummins better than Cummins shops, although Bruce Mallison of Diesel Injection of Pittsbugh is extremely knowedgeable of Cummins engines. He will be able to help you out on the phone as well. Real nice guy.Best of luck to you in this.

If your truck is finaced through a lender they may be able to amend your truck loan to cover this repair.I know Paccar credit will do this for any repair that will prevent the truck from moving.

I dont know who you are leased to, but sometimes smaller carriers will do a loan to get a driver back on the road. Remeber, if you are losing money, so are they.

Re: 8.3 cummins white smoking and black when driving
Well if your not leased then you must have your own authority.
your insurance should transfer to a rental truck in the event of a breakdown and ryder will rent anyone with a debit card a straight truck.
so tell them to fix it and go make some money.kwexpress

Re: 8.3 cummins white smoking and black when driving
well called cummins today the pump only pays 3.5 hours labor and if thay are a cummins dealer that thay can not charge more than $100 a hour labor and found that you can change one part at a time the pump brakes to 4 pieces and that you do not have to buy a hole pump and the best price i found was $3,600 so ill let yall know what it cost me

Re: 8.3 cummins white smoking and black when driving
Well that's why I asked about the code. The dealer should have handed you a printout of the codes in the ECM and explained to you what the problems is, which one was active and which one wasn't. With 12 different codes and only one that means the entire pump, it would be an easy thing to troubleshoot.
The unnamed Frieghtliner dealer in NY who told me I needed an IJ pump replaced but forgot to tell me that the code actually indicated the engine speed sensor was going which was something like $6000 cheaper to fix.Greg
