Which GPS Should I Buy?
There are quite a few out there, as you know. What would you recommend?

There have been a number of good discussions on GPS. A search should lead you to them. Cobra is reportedly bringing out a truck friendly unit later in 2008 but that isn't confirmed yet.

We bought a Garmin Nuivi 350. It's working pretty good. We have
only used it a few days.. Fairly easy to use.

Garmin Rep in Portland, ME told us this supper that they would be bringing out a 'truck friendly' software model in 2008. Hope it is true. We love our current Garmin, but would love to be able to choose Hazmat routing, etc. without having to enter all those waypoints individually.

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
Cobra has replied to my inquiry saying they have nothing for trucks in the works. With millions of drivers I can't figure out why one company doesn't go for it and capture that market.

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
There is CoPilot 9 which is for trucks and has HazMat route. It is a program for a
computer though.

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
CP9 has problems with a failure to recognize a very large percentage of the addresses you enter in it. It's very good with clearances but no better than fair at navigating because of out of date maps.

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
We use a TomTom and I love it. I like that after I enter a destination, I can read the route as text and compare it to the company's directions, to make sure I'd be taking the same route. Then I can avoid certain parts of the route or whatever. I also like that if you pass up a street it tells you to take (say it doesn't look too truck-friendly) you can just keep going and it will reroute you. I think they all do that part though. I don't know how we ever got by without it. Never get lost anymore. If the exact address can't be found, it will always take you to the street. It's a big help. And I like to watch during the trip to see how much further we have. The ETA it gives is pretty much always right.

I'm using a GO910 and for the most part like it alot however, lately its been asking if I want to connect to the computer. And when it does this it does so repeatedly, say 5-10 times despite pressing NO over and over, then it will stop for a while only to begin the cycle again. Lately I find myself pushing the NO button while muttering f*ck NO I don't want to connect to the computer.

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
Dude: driving can be stressful enough, what with the other drivers driving you crazy - I'd throw that sucker out the window! I like my Garmin Nuvi, it doesn't bug me at all. (I keep the volume turned off ) Truck routing would be a huge improvement, though.

[quote] GPS units are nice and helpful. I have a few drivers that have them and love them BUT, glance at the map or use common sense. They are not always right. I had a driver drive 100 miles out of route before realizing that he was going the wrong way and had to turn around.[quote]

Re: Which GPS Should I Buy?
Today I ordered a DVD from Garmin that provides an update to the mapping info on my unit that is 3 years old. While doing so, I asked a tech rep if Garmin had any programs for handheld or dash mounted units that were trucking friendly and included clearances, weight limits and Hazmat routing. His answer was no. They have had many requestes for such a program but, at this time, none are in the pipeline.
