Here is the short answer - no you don't need an corporation or llc.

BUT ...

Do you have an accountant or an advisor who can look at your situation and determine which is the best thing for you to do?

If not I would start there. Each person's situation is different and an LLC/Corp may sound good but it may not be in your best interest.

Also don't think for a second that a corporation or LLC will protect your assets, they do not. They will only go so far in mitigating risks to the assets.

Yes, now the thing is you have to find one that will help you, not just answer questions but actually help you. A lot of them go to accounting school because they are socially dysfunctional (or at least the 15 or so I interviewed to replace mine were, he retired) so don't just pick one and say "I found one". The trick is to see who you are comfortable with and remember you are paying them to advise you.
