Unless something has changed I don't believe you can deduct your lunch. A lunch purchased for someone else (like a business lunch) is deductible if you itemize. I am not a accountant or tax preparer but that is my understanding of it.

Geo:

Happy to hear you're doing well with EGL. Hope they can get you a load to the Detroiter for the EXPO in August Might be a buyer for your star-car there if the rumors you're selling it are true.

I know you're always looking for a deal but I think you're barking up the wrong lunch wagon on this one.. My understanding of that portion of the tax code is: you must be away from your home long enough to require a rest. I believe you can interpret that as your off duty time after you run your logable hours or, a large portion of them.

Hi all,

I think I answered this question prior for Geo, since he is a local driver and home every nite, NO HE CAN NOT DEDUCT HIS MEAL EXPENE. THIS IS THE SAME RULING AS IF HE WENT TO A REGULAR JOB AS ANY TYPE OF WORKER AND IS NOT AVAILABE TO BE DEDUCTED AT ALL.
SORRY FOR THE LATENESS OF THIS RESPONSE BUT I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY PUTER OVER THE LAST MONTH AND FINALLY GOT IT FIXED.

Hi Geo,

Sorry but you can tell your friend that the answer still holds true, unless he logs at any time where he shows 8 full hours in the sleeper and 11 hours driving time or 15 hours total with on duty not driving then YES other wise NO

Frank

I will be at the EXPO at Booth 242
