    Letterman REALLY apologies for joke

i heard the whole text of the apology that he will read on his show tonight (the show has already been taped) he finally admits it was wrong and goess in to way...so i guess all of you who supported him in that he had no reason to apologies, need to stand with him now too...but i won't hold my breath....

here is a link to the story and a bit of what he had to say:

Letterman apologizes to audience for Palin joke - USATODAY.com

in the whole apology, he sayes it took him a while to understand thw problem wasn't his intent, but the preception... gee you think!?!?

Cool Re: Letterman REALLY apologies for joke

I stand by comments from this morning. His staff blew it by not identifying the the age of the daughter in tow.I stand with him in his clarification of what many(3) of us were saying all along. The joke was in bad taste,no question, but the child molester inferences coming from the Palins is short circuiting her future.
She needs to get over it,and soon, for the sake of her party.

Based on the quotes right there in the article, yeah, I'll stand there right with him. My comments on this all along are consistent, as well as being consistent with the statements in the article, including where he said, "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault that it was misunderstood."

Still, I guarantee you, there will be some who think he said all this to keep from getting fired, or worse, for ratings, and that the joke really was about the 14 year old all along. Betcha.

Isn't that why most high profile ppl apologize? It's not for me to judge if his apology was sincere, but the ppl whom he offended.

I have no idea what his motives were. I know his ratings the last two nights of last week were sky high, tho.

Back to what I said last week. He is in trouble ratings wise again Leno. Leno is coming this fall to steal a big portion of the advertisers. They are beating that drum already and he hasn't done a show yet in that time slot.
But give Dave credit. He FINALLY came around.
NEW YORK – David Letterman says his joke about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter was a lousy joke, no matter how you cut it, and he's sorry.

But the late-night host insists that what's got people outraged is the misunderstanding over which Palin daughter the joke was about.

On Monday's edition of "Late Show," Letterman explains that the risque joke thought by some to have targeted Palin's underage daughter, Willow, was actually intended for 18-year-old daughter Bristol. The name of the daughter wasn't mentioned in the joke, which was part of Letterman's monologue on last Monday's show.

"It's not your fault that it was misunderstood," he tells his audience. "It's my fault." And he says he'll try to do better.

Now he just needs to call the Palins and say the same thing.

If that article accurately reflects what he said then this time he actually apologized. Nobody can know the intent of the joke, only the perception of the joke to those who aren't insiders to MLB and/or NYC. What was written was a presumably sincere apology that took ownership of the mistake and didn't pad it with tangential jokes and fluff. If the entire text matches the excerpt then good for him, he did the right thing this time.

I asked a question. I don't necessarily believe it myself, but it's possible. If you think that crap doesn't happen for ratings, occasionally, you're a bit naive. Controversy sells.

Re: Letterman REALLY apologies for joke

Mark levin read the complete text of the apology and it was lengthly...he did a good job owning and said he would feel the same way as palin if he were her, i would have been upset... now do i think it was real? yea, but it wouldn't of happened without "heat" from other places....

as far as palin being hurt by her comments about him, lol 99% of the mothers in the country are in her corner, she did what any of them would have done and said,,,,she has nothing to worry about....

Here's one for you hawk. This was a huge master plan conceived by Mark Burnett to get talk and hype going on about Palin before he announces his new reality show, Hangin' with the Palin's(I should copyright that). All I know is that I would tune in, can you imagine the going's on in that household.....this would be the best reality show ever.
