Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
Obama belonged to a church for 20 something years that preached hatred towards America, Whites, and Jews. The only reason he left the church is because he was coming under fire for the beliefs held by the church. Is that seperation of church and state? No do you know what is, smart guy? Seperation of Church and State is the government not endorsing a particular religon. So how would a VP that is a member of the Assemblies be the same as the Federal Government endorsing the A/G ? I'm going to tell you something my dad told me as a boy, think before you speak. Because you say you want Seperation of Church and State yet you don't know what it is.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
I was under the understanding that there was a law passed recently that said children under a certain age(can't remember think 14) can't be in the church when the snakes come out. Also this law states if a child is ill and not taken to the doctor the parents can be charged with Child Endangerment. You are correct that the A/G isn't a snake handling faith. I'm just not going sit back and let my beliefs be attacked. Not saying you are doing that.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." —Mark 16:17-18
I think some of our brethren may be confusing Assembly of God with the Church of God. There are numerous instances of these fundamentalist Pentecostal groups that base their religious practices on the above scripture. They have actually spun off from the national C of G since their main group banned snake handling quite a few years ago. These churches are very small, usually made up of families that pass the practice from one generation to another. I haven't seen any instances where the Assembly of God churches have been involved in handling snakes or drinking poison; however, they do apparently believe in speaking in tongues and divine healing of the sick as evidenced in this link to their website below:

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
Why should Sarah Palin give the media any consideration at all? They are a despicable lot aren't they? The Democrats and their accomplices in the press fear and hate Sarah Palin for many reasons. The fact she is a believing Christian really riles them up. Palin doesn't need or want the approval of the liberal press and that makes them more irrelevant than ever. All Sarah Palin needs to do is be herself, smile and look good. She may be the future of American conservatism. I hope so.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
Uhm, 1927, as part of The Radio Act of 1927, which was then superseded by the Communications Act of 1934, and Section 315 of the latter Act is where the Equal Time provision can now be found.
When it was first devised in 1927, it was done so because of the fear that radio station owners could and would try to manipulate the elections. American politics on every level would be at the mercy of those who owned stations. Thus, the Equal Time (actually, equal opportunity) provision was born. If any legally bona fide (meaning their name is actually on the ballot) candidate for political office gets free airtime, any other legally bona fide candidate for the same office must be afforded the same amount of time. If the time is not free, but if bought and paid for, then the same amount of time must be made avaliable to any legally bone fide candidate who wishes to purchase that time. If one cannot afford to purchase the equal time, free time will not be granted in its place. A well funded candidate will still have an advantage in this case, as we all know.
There was a major amendment to the provision in 1959 after Lar Daly, who was running for Mayor of Chicago, demanded free airtime after the local tv and radio stations were giving free time via news coverages to Mayor Richard Daly. The FCC ruled that the news coverage triggered 315 and granted the Lar Daly equal time.
Congress quickly reacted and put in place 4 primary exceptions to 315. Stations who gave time to candidates on regularly scheduled newscasts, news interviews shows, documentaries (provided the candidate wasn't the primary focus of the documentary), or on-the-spot news events would not have to offer equal time to other candidates for that office. With these exemptions, Congress stressed that the public interest would be served by allowing stations the freedom to cover the activities of candidates without worrying that any story about a candidate would require equal time.
Since 1959 the FCC has made several important rulings with regard to 315, namely that presidential press conferences are considered "on the spot news" and is exempt, even if the president discusses his campaign. Also, debates are considered "on the spot news" and are exempt, as well, which enables the stations or those organizing the debates free will with which to pick and choose who participates in the debates.
Certain news interview shows like Good Morning America, The Today Show, Meet The Pess, are also exempt. Appearances by candidates on shows which do not fit under the four exempt formats, like Oprah, will trigger the equal opportunities provision, even if the appearance is completely irrelevant to the campaign.
If you may recall, during Ronald Reagan's political campaigns, if a station aired one of his films, the station would have been required to offer equal time to any of Reagan's opponents who asked for it.
During the gubernatorial race in California, all California television stations dropped the airings of all Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, otherwise they would have been required to give countless hours of free airtime to any and all of the 134 other candidates for governor. Same thing happened in Tennessee with Fred Thompson. And with Gopher from The Love Boat when he campaigned for Congress. Only the exact minutes that an actor spends on-screen or as part of a complete scene during the show is subject to the equal time rule.
Well, the Fairness Doctrine isn't the same as the Equal Time provision of The Communications Act. The Fairness Doctrine basically says that you have to present all news, particularly controversial news, that is in the public interest, and you have to present both sides of the issue to ensure even-handedness. Over the years the Fairness Doctrine was abused and is why it's no longer a law. The idea behind the Fairness Doctrine is a good one, until it starts being applied without common sense, or worse, when it gets applied with political motives (I guess that's redundant, isn't it?). Trying to wrap the Internet into the Fairness Doctrine will be a big mistake.I understand from reading the latest incarnation of the Fairness Doctrine that it has Internet provisions written into it that make McCain-Fiengold look like a sunday get together with the girls. It will be interesting to see us go to pre-war britain style of free speech.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
She may be in the process of engaging in a method that Ronald Reagan employed, which would be bypassing the media and speaking directly to the American people. Reagan was despised by the mainstream media, who collectively regarded him as an "amiable dunce" (a description used by former Speaker Tip O'Neill). Reagan dealt with this attempted villification by ignoring the media critics and talking to the public through speeches, press conferences, etc. to get his messages across. This proved to be very effective in explaining his goals and policies without the interference of jaded interviews by hostile pundits, and it appears to be what Palin is doing at this point.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
The idea of fairness to a Liberal is to shut up anyone that does not agree with them. Like firing conservitive professers. Or how many times do you hear of the groups that don't belive in global warming, or how few gun accidents there are, or how murders are committed by criminals and not law abiding citizens. etc etc etc. They want to control. Period. Besides, when I was growing up I was taught that there ain't no such thing as fair so get over it. If Rush sells more advertising and does better, tough cookies. Layoutshooter

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
I believe this is the reason why..or one of them. She puts herself and family out for vice president. I don't believe she could not figure this one out. She should at least be some what sly about being a puppet/mouthpiece for the oil and zionist interest..Is she such a zealeot will she put zionist interest above the USA's true interest cause Her Bible says so?...
By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
Wed Sep 3, 7:23 PM ET
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."
Public figure here..seperation of church and state...My question is ..Whose God? Mine, yours, hers, John McCain's Obamas whose? The one I read about says (Tho shall not kill) unless US oil or zionist interest say so!
In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."
Im sure God opened the heavens and told her
Thou shall build a Thirty Million bllion dollar pipeline for US oil interest. Does she really have a direct talk with GOD? Does GOD really tell her his stuff? WHO does then?
Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.
I bet he will deployed in same zone where my friend was killed this spring,,,or any other hostlie area.. Yea right the vice presidents son in the hands of combatants yea ok
"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
Again my God? Her God? Your God? Whose God? By the way does he really open the heavens and talk to her? Maybe he will tell her to put those TV evangilst out of business and stop cheating the old and sick for a change
A video of the speech was posted at the Wasilla Assembly of God's Web site before finding its way on to other sites on the Internet.
Palin told graduating students of the church's School of Ministry, "What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys." As they preached the love of Jesus throughout Alaska, she said, she'd work to implement God's will from the governor's office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.
Yes the Almighty opened the heavens and THOU SHALL BUILD A PIPELINE>>AND THOU SHALL HIRE Illegals for the cheapest price
"God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.
"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she added. "But really all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."
I would have to think its heart that needs to get right with GOD
Palin attended the evangelical church from the time she was a teenager until 2002, the church said in a statement posted on its Web site. She has continued to attend special conferences and meetings there. Religious conservatives have welcomed her selection as John McCain's running mate.
Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, lamented Palin's comments.
"I miss the days when pastors delivered sermons and politicians delivered political speeches," he said. "The United States is increasingly diverse religiously. The job of a president is to unify all those different people and bring them together around policy goals, not to act as a kind of national pastor and bring people to God."
So do the rest of us ...Not from a politician
The section of the church's Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site "was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days."
___
So she freely states GOD's will? How does she know what GOD's Will is? Does he talk directly to her? If God talked directly to any one else they would locked up as crazy? Is this really who you want to lead the Country?
Or is she just a puppet getting her strings pulled by other interest?
I would bet its actually the Republican party shutting her up not the press..Do you really think if she spouted this all the time the American Public would not label and reject her an extremist crackpot that directy speaks with God?

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
Osama Obama is an "Extremist Crackpot" and no one is shutting him up!! And would somebody please tell me JUST WHERE in the Constitution is the phrase "Separation of Church and State"? I have never seen it in there. All I can find is something that says that
Congress shall make no religion. Seems to me that the same part of the Bill Of Rights says I have the right to free speach. Fairness Doctrine? Free speach? Does ALGORE allow a free flow of ideas on global warming? Did the Congress when they held the latest round of hearings on the subject? Do Major GOVERNMENT funded Univeristies allow free thinking or do they force liberalism on students under the guise of MANDATORY classes? Layoutshooter

In my opinion, Sarah Palin is a Barbie Doll with brains. It just doesn't get any better than that. Conservatives are rallying to the cause and I think Democrats are beginning to feel this election slip away from them. Hence, all the mean spirited attacks against Palin will only strengthen our resolve.

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
Sorry but you're wrong. Foreign policy experince does not come as a governor let alone a senator. The experience comes from people in the state department, where there is a requirement to learn how to decipher foreign policy and diplomacy.
Here is one thing that really got me thinking;
"But Gibson noted that threats of new sanctions had failed to stem Iran’s nuclear program so far and asked Palin whether she would back Israel if it were to seek to eliminate Iran’s facilities militarily.
“We are friends with Israel,” Palin said, “and I don’t think that we should second-guess the measures that Israel has to take to defend themselves and for their security.” Pressed, she twice more said she would not “second-guess” Israel."
Now this is a good trick to get someone to second guess themselves which she stood her ground and didn't let Gibson control the interview. She did really well when you read the transcripts.
But on the other hand it seems that you don't like Palin and maybe need to reconsider supporting her. Why? Because Obama has been a mess right from the start, we are just finding out more about his connections to Aires and others. I listened to Obama on Letterman and he seems to be a lost stuff shirt, even McCain has a sense of humor. But again, with all the twisted support, the Messiah needs to get lessons on how to memorize a speech and how to pick people who won't embarris him..... then I hear the following yesterday from the Obama's VP makes me think that the Dems are falling apart;
"Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America - let's get that straight," Biden said testily after a voter said he was "very pleased" that Democratic nominee Barack Obama had chosen him instead of Clinton.
"She is qualified to be President of the United States of America, she's easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and, quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me," the Delaware senator added forcefully. "I mean that sincerely, she is first- rate."
WTF was that all about Joe? Are you actually losing your mind?
You don't say that, you can compliment the people behind the scenes but come on, so you are a mistake as a VP pick?
If you all think that this guy has it together to be VP or even a senator, you too have lost your mind.
This is not apeasing the hillary supporters, Obama needs to do that but I think that this is his true nature coming out. He is a political nut job, has a poor record that is being ignored and I am so surprised that people actually justify his comments but they have.
What gets me is this;
If people want change, why do they cling to democrats? The democrats have been lying for a long time, the republicans are almost the same but it comes down to who wants to see people suceed, not enslaved. The dems have promised things, like the dems but they keep saying that they were going to be different, well look at congress and tell me what has changed.Greg

Re: Why wont they let Sarah talk to the press?
As with most liberals, facts mean nothing and objectivity is inconceivable. It would be nice of we could see an unedited version of the interview; I heard this morning that the versions we will see on 20/20 and other shows were altered to do her no favors. However, it appears that she did quite well with Gibson and held her position when he tried to put words in her mouth and slant her responses.
Since we're on the topic of experience, I'd sure like to see what young Barack Hussein Obama did and for whom he worked as a "community organizer". If this is supposed to be his defining experience that qualifies him for the most powerful position in the world, it would be good to know the details of just what he accomplished during this time. Word has it that he worked for the Acorn Group - one of the most corrupt voter registration organizations in the country. He also supposedly collaborated with his pal Tony Rezko to rebuild some run-down govt. housing projects, which after he was done were still in the same shape as when they started; Rezko however, wound up with quite a bit more money in the bank. If these are any examples of his accomplishments, we would certainly like to hear more. At any rate, you'll notice that neither he nor his campaign will provide any details regarding his accomplishments (if he had any) during that period of time. In comparison, Palin's executive experience as governor is certainly more impressive than anything Obama has done during his insignificant senatorial tenure.
