Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
It's not so much the address, it's the LESSON PLAN that came with it. Why do the teachers need the suggestions (nudge) of the government on which direction to take their student's minds concerning this speech?
If the President wants to encourage the children to stay in school, etc., that's a good thing, but when the government includes "lesson plans" that originally (since revised) included activities that appeared to be focused around HIM (surprise!), then parents are going to object.
Early reports were that the "lesson plans" for 7-12 grades included reading his books......uh, I draw the line.
Go back to the election....who can forget this VIDEO of the teacher berating a student for backing McCain. Do we need to open up the opportunity for more of this?
As I said, I'm all for the President trying to encourage education, stay in school, personal responsibility......DON'T SMOKE, etc., but when it turns into all about him.....NO.
If you want to view the "revised lesson plans", you can do so HERE.

EVERYTHING that Obama does is all about the TAKEOVER of our Country by his "Puppet Master". It will only get WORSE as time passes. The more we resist the more likely we are to see government violence.

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
I wouldn't have cared if Jimmy Carter had wanted to address our schoolchildren. By all accounts, Carter was a very good and decent man. I don't recall Carter threatening to make radical changes to the basic social tenets that hold our nation together.
Obama, on the other hand, is all about changing America. It seems Obama doesn't like America very much. For sure, his wife doesn't. Why should we allow Obama free access to our young children's minds? Would we let them be indoctrinated much like the Hitler Youth of Germany in the 30's and 40's?
If you believe the United States is a good and honorable nation, the Obama administration is not your friend. Let's be clear on one central point: regardless of his party affiliation, Barack Hussein Obama is a socialist. His agenda must be stopped at every opportunity. Let Obama sell his subliminal hocus-pocus to someone other than our children.

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
Yea, I see the problem but it bigger than all of this.
Here is why....
The department of education has been used as a political tool since its creation and before that there was decentralized loosely form of groups that tried toset national standards. This lesson plan is not as bad as their other lesson plans where they stress soft skills instead of the three rs.
The public school system, like it or not is where they have been indoctrinating children for 40 plus years. it is a place run by the unions and a place that the parents have really little say in what Jane and johnny are taught. It is not the big stuff that the parents catch that matter like this, it is the little stuff, the little peer pressure that is started by the teachers to shape the opinion of the kids or in some form of competitive stance made by the teachers and administrator that puts the kids at risk by forcing them to think as a group (if that made any sense, what I mean is this volunteer thing started in the 90's by the DoE under clinton).
Now that these same radicals who were like my teachers in school are in power, we will have to consider ending the DoE and finding a way to end kidnapping of our kids by the teachers union - public servants should not have unions.
To me, a product of 1960's education reform and experinentation, public education should end and it should be turned over to private companies to properly teach the kids without teachers more worried about tenure than about how well their kids are going to do in the future.
End the madness - end public education.Greg

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
Aristotle is bringing up excellent points. This president's beliefs are EXTREME at best. Extreme ideas must be fought with EXTREME actions, words, etc. THAT'S why conservatives are reacting to this and other things so forcefully.....it's REQUIRED if we're going to have any resemblance of our country left at the end of this four year term.
Many of us "had his number" during the election cycle. We tried to get that word across to any and all that would listen. Many would not listen, would not/could not believe that what we were trying to say could possibly be true. Hey, I didn't want to think it either, still don't......but it's HERE now and must be dealt with at every turn.
I don't see any return of the masses to the "silent minority" any time soon. As a matter of fact, I see the opposite happening. The more time goes on, the more this leftist's agenda is exposed to the light, the more people are going to get on board to fight for their country. If the extreme actions bother anyone then that's just too bad because as I said, it's required.

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
There is and has been for sometime home schooling. We all have the option to keep our kids home and teach them ourselves. Indoctrination goes on all the time. IBM did it, quite cleverly I might add, in the 80's by donating entire computer labs to school systems. The kids learned computer skills on IBM computers, and as a result, That is what they were comfortable with when they became adults...

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
Wasn't that the same thing that happened with apple, they infiltrated the schools by the way of the teachers and because they were the only way to go, the schools got them at a very small discount or in many cases at retail?
But see the difference is that since the DoE inception, there is more of a concerted effort to come up with standards and force all the kids to think alike.Greg

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
And now we have 10-15% of the population that believe macs are the bomb. even though most business don't use them.so the kids had to relearn most of there computer skills,Just another fail for DoE.
Seriously we need to just wipe clean the education system, none of the old educators should be allowed to get anywhere near a school, just like those on the sex crime list because what they are doing to the kids is equally offensive

Re: Obama to nation: Give me your children.
Well the best thing to do is to allow the parents to actually decide where the kids go to school. I like the way France does it, the parents have to select the school and register the kids and the school gets X amount of money and only X amount of money for that student. Nothing else is provided outside of basic operating funding to keep the buildings in shape and staffed with maintenance people.
The money follows the kids, not the kids follow the money. When you think about it, there has to something said about the real failure of our country.
They also have a teachers union, they also have a lot of regulations but they also teach their kids.
Look at the DC school district and then the Detroit school district, both run by the union and both poorly equipped to have students who can add or subtract. It is not all the teachers mind you, the parents are too lazy to fight for their kids education and accept low standards but focus on race and stuff that doesn't matter in the real world.Greg
