Fourth of july
What are you doing for July 4th? I am having a BBQ to honor & thank all of those in our area who either served or are serving in the military because, as I look at it, without their sacrifice, I wouldn't have the freedoms that I enjoy today. Any of you who happen to be in /near my area Saturday (whether or not you served in the military) are more than welcome to come join us.

We will be at the annual Family event in Louisville, KY! Kids, grilling and a few back-yard games. It's a GREAT time!

Re: Fourth of july
We are running freight in the Western states at the moment and don't know where we will be over the long weekend. There are very few reefer trucks out here and freight has been moving. The best we can hope for is a good run that keeps us busy over the 4th. If we are laid over someplace, I bet we'll be able to smell that Binghamton barbeque from here!
Lawrence, has any thought ever been given to having a barbeque cooking contest at the Expedite Expo?Phil Madsen

Re: Fourth of july
We will also be out moving freight and will go home the following week. In the past ten years I have missed seeing the fireworks. Bob drives that shift and he has really seen some awesome fireworks going through cities.

Re: Fourth of july
Watkins Glen is about 1/2 hour from where I live and is one of the most beautiful towns that I've ever seen. They have one of the prettiest gorges to walk thru. If any of you ever get the chance to go to Watkins and you like nature, walking thru the gorge is an awesome experience. Definately bring a camera. There's soooo much to see & do there: the gorges, lake, parks, shops, and of course...the race track. Waaay too many things to list.

Re: Fourth of july
We are going to be home for the 4th, celebrating that and a family member's birthday, as well as thoroughly enjoying our week vacation. We've been out for 2 months and now it's time to kiss and cuddle the grandkids and catch lightning bugs at night.

Re: Fourth of july
If i am loaded, ill be workin..if not, and i am within 400 miles of home, ill head home, but not for a holiday celebration...I won't go into it as it is political and i won't hi jack the thread from how it was intended, but i will say that the intent of this holiday is to celebrate the USA's "Independence", something we are lossing as a nation on a daily basis...no i won't be celebrating this 4th....
There are people in need of help. Charity is one of the nobler human motivations. The act of reaching into one's own pockets to help a fellow man in need is praiseworthy and laudable. Reaching into someone else's pocket is despicable and worthy of condemnation.

Re: Fourth of july
I WILL be home. I, like inkasnana, will be starting a week vacation. I plan next week and over the holidays as my vaca time.
Chef, the 4th is to celebrate our freedoms. Even if we are losing more and more everyday, celebrate the ones we have left and if you feel that strongly maybe host your own "tea party". Invite some friends over and make sure some are libs and maybe have a "round table" or some other form of discussion.
If you can open the eyes of just 2 people and they do the same and so on and so on you would be suprised as to the impact you can make.
You frigin' people... you have no idea how to defend a nation. All you did was weaken a country today, Obama. That's all you did. You put people's lives in danger. Sweet dreams, son.

I have nothing planned for the 4th. If I get a load, I will be happy to run it.

Re: Fourth of july
I was thinking along the same lines...Chef this is not a time to withdraw..it is a time to go forward...your strength and resolve to get over this bump in the road is more reason to celebrate what was and what will be again with enough good citizens leading the way....If you do not celebrate it will be a win for the "other side"
Maybe the old hippie saying "power to the people" wasn't all bad? Happy July 4th!
