Summer or Winter?
Do you like the Summers out here more than the Winters?
Take away the deep extremes Lorado in July at 120F, and Greenbay in Feb at lows of -20F. But the over all cold and hot days of summer vs winters?
I hate as most people do, snowy roads and scrapping windows. Also cannot stand the smell of parking lots, flies near dumpsters and the beating of the hot sun at 4pm plus always having to wear sunglasses near these white trucks with the sun glarring off them.

Re: Summer or Winter?
Easy,
Summertime by a big margin. Don't or didn't park in truck stops, so no issues with stinking parking lots and the like.
Lastly, very allergic reaction to snow, or complete convulsions with temps below freezing.

Re: Summer or Winter?
Dave is right on. Summer.
I would always find SOMEWHERE to enjoy the Summer - heck it was even a beach sometimes.

Re: Summer or Winter?
We will go for summer also!
In the winter I watch the weather pretty close so we do not pick up or deliver right in the path of a huge snowstorm. Once a storm has gone through and cleanup has begun we will tackle just about anything. One thing about the winter though the weather can sure keep you awake when you notice the conditions are right for black ice to start forming. After one of those driving session you are ready to crawl in bed and call it a day.

Re: Summer or Winter?
Summer...I'd much rather deal with heat, rain and bugs than cold snow and ice.

Re: Summer or Winter?
Summer. It's a lot easier to paddle a canoe when you don't have to chip a path through the ice.

Re: Summer or Winter?
Summer is far better, because:
1) Cold winds make me cry, and my nose run.
2) Cold air makes my hands even clumsier than usual, and my skin dry & itchy.
3) The less clothing I need to carry, and launder, the better.
4) Food is better in the summer, consisting of more fresh produce, and less heavy fare.
5) Showering is quicker - don't need to dry my hair before going outside.
6) Open windows encourage better airflow, less germs than sealed up spaces.
7) Sandals are way more comfortable than socks & shoes.
8) No need for space hogging quilts, blankets, or comforters,
9) Driving is safer, without the snow & ice on the road and the truck.
10) Liftgate parties in the parking lot!

Re: Summer or Winter?
I always liked to drive in the summer. Not as much black ice. I liked to sleep in the winter. When it's cold I could put on more blankets. You can only turn the fan up so fast and take off so many layers of clothes when it's hot.

Re: Summer or Winter?
One down side of summer is you have all the families traveling on vacation and we you are driving thru town during the middle of the day you have to watch for kids more than you normally would. Plus on rural roads you have farm machinery out moving around. Other than that I always enjoyed summer more. When flatbeding I would look crazy with my Justin lace upworkboots and shorts on with a muscle shirt and straw hat. It gets just to hot for blue jeans when tarping. That heat ain't no joke. If you don't believe me check out my swollen eye picture on my myspace.
I know I bring it up every year. I just want you to remember you can get to hot messing around with them trucks. If you feel light headed sit down in a cool place and drink some water. If someone is trying to rush you tell them to back off you need to cool off.
I'm not trying to gross anyone out. I just want to show you it's real. It also cost me about 7 grand. Between ambulance ride, the ice bath to lower my temp from 104, the xrays and radiologists, the butterfly stitches, and the doctor. The emt didn't charge me anything to repair my glasses, and the friendly Missouri Highyway Patrolman that hung out with me for about 5 hours and answered the phone everytime my wife called and I was still in xray and comforted her didn't charge me anything either. Still the most expensive afternoon off my life. You know the guys at the plant also folded up my tarps, stored them, and another driver moved my truck out of the way and locked it up and none of them would take payment? Good folks in Lamar,MO. Just wasn't a cheap way to find out. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming, which do you prefer summer or winter?

Re: Summer or Winter?
Ouch!
When I was real heavy my blood pressure was very high and that would impact me greatly while working in extreme heat.
I have experienced dizzy spells that almost caused me to lose consciousness.
Today I no longer have that problem; hence, I like "hot"...no..."sweaty hot" weather. As one ages, the skin becomes thinner and the heat loss is greater. The cold realy "bites" me!
If I am stickin' to the seat...I am enjoying the day.
Seldom do I ever run the A/C when going down the road.
Give me summer; all day and everyday.

Re: Summer or Winter?
I like winter better, always have. While Phil is right about being easier to paddle a canoe in the summer it is WAY harder to ice fish when the water is soft. Anything over 60 is too hot for me. I don't mind winter driving, fewer cars, less construction etc. Keeping warm is much easier than cooling down. In winter I just dress in layers of the right clothes. In summer there is only sooo much you can take off legallly and then you still are hot. Layoutshooter
