Owners who hire Texas drivers (are there any?)

In these times of high fuel prices and freight being tight is some areas, I am posing a question to owners.

Do any of you hire Texas team drivers or do you know an owner or owners who do.

My good friend and I work for the same medium size trucking company at present and we are considering going back to otr but not with any of the mega carriers. He is an ex-Werner driver and I am an ex-Swift driver. We both have Haz-mat and are both married and mature drivers.

Thanks for any responses to this query.

A good place to start is in the classified ads on this site. Another avenue is to get in touch with some of the bigger carriers (Fedex,Panther,Landstar) and get pre approved with them, and they will also help you get connected with some fleet owners.DD.

One thing to keep in mind is look for a carrier that gets loads to Texas. Also, check with your prospective owner about how far they're willing to let you DH if you don't get a load to your hometown....we've only gotten a load 2 times in a year to Houston, where we live. Of course we've been home more than that, but I'm just talking about actually getting a load within 100 miles of home. Laredo is usually the closest we've gotten. Just something to keep in mind when you're looking. Fortunately, we work for good owners who work with us on going home, because we don't go home that often.

    austindriver...
I hope you and your prospective partner has thought this over very carefully.
Make sure 'being home' isn't a priority, seeing how you both live 'out of the loop'.
Do you realize just how difficult it will be to support two families? Both of you giving up certain paychecks to 'take a chance' on the road? Let's see, that means the truck revenue would be split 3 ways.
My suggestion, read, read, read on here first before jumping in. When you think you have your answer, go back and read, read, and read some more!
I"m not saying not to do it, just make sure your totally informed before jumping in.....and financially secure to ride out the rough times.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Some of our best teams have been from Texas...and they have moved on to buy their own trucks, having done well with us. I really do not think it matters where you live as long as you understand the realities of driving a truck. When we started we lived in Arizona for the first two years.....was not a problem as we drove a tractor.

Re: Owners who hire Texas drivers (are there any?)

Thanks to all who have responded to this query. As to understanding the realities of truck driving, my friend and I surely do, as we both put a fair amount of time as drivers for Swift and Werner.

As to living "out of the loop" as one poster mentioned in their reply, I live 2.5 miles from IH-35 and my pal lives about 12 miles from IH-35, the main corridor through Texas.

This, I would think, could and would be an advantage for loads going into and out of Texas, and could be to our advantage for home time when we would take it.

    Thanks again
