RE: It's time for a ban
It would be so nice if smokers & non could just quit bugging each other!
But when aggressive & competitive sports require a feature on the front page of every paper, every day, along with an entire section devoted to the subject, and no newscast is complete without the "scores", along with entire radio & cable channels featuring nothing else, while the quaint subject of "etiquette" is a once-a-week paragraph in some newspapere, relegated to the "women's" section of fashion & cooking, where does that put the value of consideration on our list of family values? :-(

RE: It's time for a ban
I'm with you on this one Leo.In fact,it is the law in San Francisco,as well as other cities in California.
I have been refeered to as a "smoking Nazi"on this forum for even thinking about bringing up smokeing. As you said, not all,but many smokers just don't get it.Should they have the same opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to stink the joint up,I say no,no,no.Take it out to the furthest place in the truck stop and light up.

RE: It's time for a ban
I remember Rush talking about a humidor/restaurant he goes to. They were sitting and having a cigar with their meal, and a lady looked at them like they were criminals. I can't remember which state he was in, but it was a non-smoking state. Being that they were in a humidor, the laws didn't apply there. But the non-smoking lady was agast that they were smoking in a SMOKE SHOP! Gimme a break!
I do believe smoking truckers outnumber non-smoking truckers. This is one of the few areas we are the majority.
Besides... next time you want to gripe about being in the minority on this matter, remember most of us are also a straight truck in a semi's world. Choose which agendas you'd like to see pushed, as I'm sure there are several that are going to push you the same way. And you'll need allies in the ppl you've just crossed.

RE: It's time for a ban
Entirely too many rights of Supposedly American Citizens have been taken away! I SMOKE-- I like a good drink of LIQUOR and DAMMIT I PAY TAXES TOO! I fought for my country on foreign soil--- and only to be told what I can and ca'nt do here in the USA. Smoking is not illegal and if it ever becomes such--- then I will still smoke as long as I enjoy it.
Please do'nt be like one person who made a rude and off the wall comment to me while I was smoking in a parking lot. He ended up with most of his nose under his left ear. I wo'nt spare the next person either!

RE: It's time for a ban
If you are out in a parking lot then I'd just walk around you. It's indoors where I'd like to watch the movie or eat or look around the store that is the problem. If all the smoke stayed inside the smoker it would be different but a person can't smoke without infringing on everyone around. You may be one of the exceptions but the majority of smokers are inconsiderate of anyone but themself or they'd only smoke outdoors and away from the building.

RE: It's time for a ban
I heard of a death because of a smoking ban yesturday
some 80 year old grandpa walked out of a bar in scottland to have a smoke.
fell and hit his head and died from the impact.if the smoking ban had not been in place he would still be puffing away.
it is freedom of choice
its funny how even in states with smoking bans in place most casinos are exempt why?
because they told the goverment it would hurt there bussiness to much
to ban smoking.
I smoke and I wish someone would ban public farting.it really stinks just like this topic
