I have spent a few weeks researching the expedite business mostly on this website. First and foremost I would like to thank all those that participate in this forum for their willingness to share their experience with the rest of us. We have people like Davek, Thawk, scott, greg and many more that are always on top of questions that are raised - for that am very greatful.
Due to all the insight gained I now feel like am ready to get into the field with a B van. I only have 1 question that I did not see adressed earlier. As an o/o one has to go through a broker who eventually takes a cut from the pie (60/40 etc). Why can't a van or truck owner not put in a bid for himself hence making a higher profit unlike the broker who has overhead costs? If this is possible,how does one go about making a bid with the company that needs the product eg Ford,GM etc.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

The auto companies outsource the vast majority of their logistics. In the case of expedited freight, National Logistics Management is one of the biggest players. If you have your own operating authority you have to deal with them. It's much easier for them to let a logistics company deal with the number of carriers it takes to get the job done. This would also apply to any shipper who would use a broker. They make one call to get the freight moved, as opposed to maybe several to find someone available.

I considered running under my own authority, but as a solo driver I didn't feel it was worth the time spent looking for freight instead of driving. If I were a team driver it might have made more sense.

In addition to looking for freight you will also be looking to collect money.
