This subject might evoke as much discussion as the question of should I vote Democrat or Republican, should I drive a cargo van or a sprinter, should I have a B unit or a C unit. The question: What type of CB radio and antennae should I have for a Chev/GMC cargo van. What brand, where do I get it, how much $$, etc. What type antennae, and where's the best place to mount it/them?

Anything that does NOT have an echo or reverb or any other voice "enhancing" feature that makes you sound stupid and hard to understand and anything that does NOT put out over about 50 watts PEP maximum to cause your radio to walk all over everyone within a 10 mile radius even though you can't hear them from more than a mile or so away. Anything over 3.8 watts is illegal.

Cobra is a good brand. You may hear and see Galaxy but be aware about half their line is technically illegal in the states as they transmit out of band for what's approved in the states. It's pretty unlikely you would be caught with over power and/or out of band but it's $10,000 if it happens.

I use a cobra cb radio with a K-40 antenna. I thinks the antenna runs around $49.00 and the cobras run from I've seen around $69.00 to $139.00,depending on the model.Mine works well.Gets out good and receives good.

Or you can wait til a trucker blows all his money on the gambling machines at the truck stop and wait til he offers his radio for sale.
Sometimes I think A trucker wins on the machines,and has to buy merchandise.Mite be able to get a deal that way.

Prof:

I bought an antenna mount from Pilot and mounted it on the drivers side rear (so I could get at it easily). I also bought at Pilot a breakaway connector that screws into the mount. This connector has a sleeve that, when raised, allows the antenna to be dropped to the horizontal position. This is a great feature when passing thru a car wash or when put on a lift for underbody repairs.

I am running a cargo van.It is mounted on the drivers side front.It has a metal thing coming up between the hood and fender and it is mounted on it.Works well.Also,you can take the antenna part off if needed.It twists off from the base.

I mis-spoke. I can't go through the machine operated washes but I fit easily into most do-it-yourself wash structures. Cost there is usually $6-10 in quarters. Typically, however, I use the Truck washes when there is no line, $12-18.
