    RE: Detention charges...

The range is generally 25.00 to 100.00 for T-val reefer shipments. Of course this would be after the normal waiting time based on unit size. Hope this helps.

FedEx Custom Critical typically pays a van 58% of $5.00 every 15 minutes after the first two hours of detention

Tri-State pays 25 bucks and hour, after your first 2 hours. I recently had to sit at a dock for 26 hours, that sure worked out nice!

Your carrier hires you to be at a shipper or consignee at a specific time and that time is confirmed by all parties. If either the shipper or the consignee delays your pick-up or delivery beyond a specified period, you are being detained and deserve compensation for your time. A typical acceptable delay is two hours. pay varies by company and truck size.

    RE: Detention charges...

Our average detention pay has always been an amount lower than we think it should be. ;)

In our view, the value of "D-time" is not the money you get for sitting and "doing nothing." We can make more money running on another load, even with the D-time and fuel factored in. The value of D-time is the incentive it provides shippers and receivers (consignees) to get you in and out in a timely fashion. Given a choice, we'd always choose the next run over sitting on the current freight while D-time builds.

For drivers that run with fleet owners, D-time should be addressed in the contract. Does the driver get all D-time money? Is D-time money subject to the same driver/owner split as run money? Is the formula any different if the truck idles instead of just sitting? Is the split for reefer D-time (if you have one) the same as for truck D-time?

D-time is certainly better than nothing. Running a load is better than sitting on one.

    RE: Detention charges...

i drive for tri state too..... and they screwed me out of detention because i didnt submit my times in military time......

    I wrote it as 8:00am to 11:00pm instead of 0800 to 2300

It doesnt seem right to me... it was my first time submitting detention and feel that they screwed me big time
