PBM games

Anyone else into play-by-mail games?

Being someone who loves strategy games, I recently got back into a PBM game I haven't played in 15 yrs. It's set in the world of Conan, and has all the cool stuff a good tactical strategy game has... diplomats, assassins, heroes, generals, and of course, wizards!

Add to that the chess match of armies against 35 other players, and you have Hyborian War.

The hard thing about being on the road, and playing a PBM like Hyborian War, is that unless someone is home to scan and email your turn to you, you're out of luck. But, if you do have someone to go thru hoops to make you happy, you'll only have to wait two weeks at a time to experience a Christmas gift for the mind. That's why I get into many games... my mind can't get enough gifts!

I've been playing chess with a guy via e-mail since 1990. Sometimes we'll go weeks between moves, but generally we average about one game every 3 months.
