    I Shouldn't be Alive

I just watched a show by that name. A young couple with a 6 month old baby leave San Francisco for Idaho for the grandmother's funeral. It's December and terrible weather. They close I-8 and advise everyone to stay home. The young couple, being superhuman and super intelligent, know better and take a local map to guide them on state roads and back roads. Somehow they survived 9 days until rescue. They lost all their toes to frostbite. I understand the desire to go to the funeral but when does common sense have to take over?

    RE: I Shouldn't be Alive

    What common sense?

I may sound cruel here but with that specific incident, why isn't the kid being taken away for cruelty and maybe the parents should be charged?

The same goes for the story posted here on EO's front page, "Trucker delivers cargo, and then delivers her baby at roadside visitor’s stand". I just don't get people who take chances and than we have to hear how strong or brave they are. The proper thing to do was to call 911 and get help, not drop the load. But this shows no intelligences what so ever.

So what happens if the driver fell off the truck at a shipper? Who would be responsible? I bet you that the company and the shipper would be footing the bill.

We then wonder why kids have so many problems, maybe exposure to some things are not good for kids and having the kid born early is too obvious in this case. I feel that if we must now charge people with endangering the lives of their kids when they smoke in a car with the kids in it or not using the proper car seat when transporting kids, why shouldn’t we care if a ‘mother’ takes chances like this just to make a buck. The truck driver and her boyfriend are idiots, taking a chance like that is wrong and there is no excuse and they are not examples we need to have.

    RE: I Shouldn't be Alive

This reminds me of a couple that sat down next to me in the TV room at the Indy J a few years back. They had a newborn whose age would still easily be measured in weeks. They were hauling the kid around in the truck with them. But that's not the worst part. It was football playoffs and the room was packed. With smokers. The smokeater was either off or just couldn't keep up. There was a cloud hanging in the air. And, to make sure the baby got maximum exposure they were smoking as well.

They should figure out a birth control for cigarettes that works with just one cigarette and lasts for at least 6 months. Those people are child abusers just as much as people who beat their kids.
