Great EATS
Bavarian Style where everything but the main course is put in bowls and just keeps comming. Looks like it was once a Stuckeys but has been remodeled over and it was wonderfull (you know those little suprises you find). Menue Included Fried Chicken (my favorite) Baked Scrod (2nd) Lasagna Fried One Pound Catfish (3rd) Ham Steak Fried Shrimp Meat Loaf Open Face Beef prices were $11 to $9 and the pies oh my 9 inches high of course I did banana cream. Main course includes mashed potatoes and gravy, geen beans, cole slaw, beets, applesauce, apple butter and biscuits.
Family setting, Trucker friendly told them I would post it was that good, and if your on a time line, let them know they accomidated me.
I will never pass this place up
Please someone TOP THIS.
Oh yeah its located I 70 East of St. Louis Exit 30 Highland IL. Truck parking but be carefull of the first right deep ditch and hard to turn a 40 foot truck have to swing into left lane to make it.

RE: Great EATS
Found photo of pies from there. A wheel barrel would be needed to get me out of there. I'm salivating just thinking about those pies.
My prayer for the day
Dispatcher please dispatch me near Highland, IL between 1100 and 2000 hours :)

RE: Great EATS
We've looked at the pie billboard on I-70 for years and never gave a thought to going to the restaurant for one of grandma's pies because it's so close to home to eat, and so far to leave home to eat out. It's now on our list of "must do" places. Thanks.

RE: Great EATS
As I read this, I thought, these folks who start their trucking experience in a "D" truck will never really appreciate the lovely ability to stop where it looks good just because you want to, instead of driving by and thinking "Gee I'd like to be able to try that place", but not having a prayer of parking a 75-ft. T/T within a mile of the place. :P

RE: Great EATS
Well, I have made a note on the restaurants you guys are talking about, but how about a "Not so great eats?" I can tell you personal experience with the worst restaurant I have been to in the past decade, and that would be the Midway Family Restaurant, half way between Harrisburg and Allentown, on I78.
I always shy away from stopping at joints that I have not been to before, or have not heard of from other people, but this time was the unfortunate exception.
I stopped one afternoon at this place, and being drawn in by the billboard, and signage, thought "how could I possibly go wrong?"
I was wrong, and dissappointed.
Walk through the front door. Nobody says anything, or even acknowledge you. Finally, some girl comes walking over, muttering something about shes supposed to be off work already, but she will seat us anyways. How kind of her. We should have left right then and there.
So, we are sitting there looking at a mediocre menu, when Igor the bearded lady hobbles over and drops off our silverware and napkins. Finally, this woman comes over and asks us what we want to eat. We place our order, and then wait about 25 minutes. Mind you, we are 2 of about 6 people in the whole joint.
The food arrives. It is horrible. I immediately ask to just get me some ice water, as the "lemonade" has a very terrible taste. No apology or anything, just swoops up the glass and storms off. About 5 minutes later, she returns. (the beverage station is approximately 20 feet from where we were sitting)
Me being the kind heart that I am, still tipped $3.00 which I did regrettably, and we got out as fast as possible. Of course, Igor's sister was running the cash register, and she did not even bother asking me how the meal was. I guess they probably learned from experience not to ask that question in order to keep from having an angry customer get potentially irrate.
So, any of you guys passing through that stretch of PA, and get lured in by the nice signs, just stop to park, or stay at the hotel, but get your food elsewhere. Benefit from my waste of $20.00.
Scott

RE: Great EATS
WooberGoober,
Thanks for the info. Now that we are living in the age of huge chains - the little independent guy doesn't have much room to screw up. I always try and support the independent when I have the chance - but these kinds of reposts make you wonder, eh?
