Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
Why don't they track it with the QC or GPS. I thought they had something on them.

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
most of bolts qc/gps units are now "portable" and all that has to be done to dis-arm it, is to unplug it from the 12 volt outlet....

Didn't know they had that. That may be problematic in finding it knowing that. May be just someone joy riding it. Hopefully they get it back.

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
Why would they make the qualcomms "portable"? Is this just to save install/deinstall costs? What about the antennas?

Maybe if you saw some of the installs done by "professionals" you would understand.

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
You might be right, but if you are set up with a good dealer they normally work pretty hard to accommodate the owner and get it set up the way they like. Freightliner in Ypsilanti does some pretty nice work for us on the installs.

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
QC's have been portable and have had small dashboard antennas for a few yrs. The portable system is much like those old "briefcase cell phones". The keyboard and the small flat antenna are outside of the case and the power cable simply plugs into any 12 volt outlet.....I would much rather have the portable system then what was used previous and still used my some, then is not 1 single hole to drill and seal......the unit is small and out of the way...and no "dome" and "bracket" on the roof....

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
I guess that might make good sense in a cargo van or a sprinter. Might not get as good a signal on a straight truck or a semi tractor. You also have to worry more about the driver who unplugs it for the wrong reasons. But, it does sound like it has its good merits.

Re: Stolen Bolt Cargo Van
The portable models are nice to use in the summer, because you can park in the shade or even inside without losing the signal. Drawback is that when you lose your cellphone signal more than likely you'll lose the qualcomm signal too. I broke down in one of those deadzones a couple weeks ago. It was a pain in the rear. It was a lot like the days before cellphones.
