Re: Fax from in the truck
I use Ring Central.
Online Fax Service and Software by RingCentral
When I get a fax it comes to my inbox as a pdf file. Sending a fax has many possibilities I can send an email, take a word, excel, pdf and several other formats click and drag to a "control panel". You can also mix the file types and send multiple ones.
If I need to get an external document sent I scan it in and then take the file (PDF) and click and drag it.

Re: Fax from in the truck
Hossman and I bought a NeatReceipts scanner at Sam's Club for about $150. It's small, easy to set up, and almost eliminates the need to make copies and otherwise manage receipts. I'd recommend it to anyone in this business.

I got mine from Office Depot, but I've seen them at Best Buy, Staples, Sams, Costco etc. You can also order it directly from

Re: Fax from in the truck
I don't even bother with the printer. I had one but never used it, so I abandoned it at one of my stops. For the occasional hardcopy, I go to the library or kinkos. I still like flatbed scanner, but even with those, they're no bigger than a laptop these days.
I also don't bother with faxing. I figure if a company is stuck in the stone ages of fax machines then they are too far behind for me. Scan it and email ,or something more "today".
Have you seen the pen scanners? They are nearly the size of a pen. Slide it down the page and it scans into internal memory. Scanned files can be bluetoothed to a bluetooth enabled computer.

Re: Fax from in the truck
I use MyFax as well for the office and truck. I have an Epson printer, scanner, copier in the truck. MyFax will deliver your faxes in up to 3 email addresses.

Kim Komando has an article that seems to be helpful.
ScanR Business Center
ScanR Business Center Pro ($25) turns your iPhone into a scanner and fax machine. Since it requires a camera, iPod Touch users won't reap its full benefits.
Use your iPhone's camera to scan documents, business cards and more. Then, convert them into PDF files. The PDFs are searchable, so you can search for specific text within finished files.
Once you scan a document, fax it to anyone around the world. Or, use a nearby fax machine as a printer. Faxing is free. Your scans and faxes are stored online. You can access them from any Web browser or iPhone. You can also convert scans to editable documents via scanR's site.

Re: Fax from in the truck
I have an all-on-one scanner/copier/printer. I don't fax much. Like EB, I'll usually scan and e-mail as PDF files. I use the printer to print out a few things, like PARS cover sheets for faxing from the shipper to the broker, but not much. The copier function comes in handy.
It does come in handy for printing out a hard copy of a picture of damaged freight before it's put on my van, tho. I once had crushed freight about to be placed on my van, and I took a couple of pictures of it before and as they were loading me, and then printed out hard copies for the shipper to keep. I then printed out copies to give to the cons along with the freight. All talk about a freight claim was stopped cold when they saw the pictures.

Re: Fax from in the truck
Having ability to print and scan is rather usefull for me. From "need to see who signed it", blind shipments (those I see more and more), printing BOL's and PARS.
Next to E-fax service I have Lexmark X6650 wireless printer, scanner, fax for about $100. Even less expensive version is available, $60 or so at Wal-Mart.

Chef, I scan everything as PDF. You canscan stuff in the neat receipts format, but I like being able to see the image without opening the neat receipts program

Re: Fax from in the truck
This thing works great and no need for another service. Just scan your BOL's as a pdf, save them to your docs and e-mail them...it will pay for itself in no time!!
I am still playing with the "storage" of receipts and docs right now, but it certainly will save me time and make filing a bit more accurate and make things easier at the end of the month and the yr end also....
Again, Thanks for the recommendation...
