Re: February 2010 Location
Well the Chev dealer would touch it until late today, so i blew out and was at a trans place at 7:30 am , met the owner at the door when they opened and the van was in the shop by 8:30.....a clutch pack is smoked, so its a rebuild of my trans, not an off the shelf exchange...some where around $1500 with a torque converter also......
I lost my return load, but i'll be DH'n up to GA by 1800 tonight..try to grab a load north, if not, i'll DH towards home. Cjances are I'll go out of service on Monday and have a few other things on the van taken care of, including adding a external Trans cooler.......
so here i sit and wait, but still not as long as TJP!!!
And yea TJ, we do need to enjoy some good food again!!!!

Re: February 2010 Location
Cheff, did the repair shop tell you why the transmission failed? Was it due to lack of an external transmission cooler or just a mechanical defect?

Re: February 2010 Location
Heat blizzard.... so hence the cooler when i get home...id have them do it, but i have one on the shelf in the shed....i just never got to installing it....he did say that the mileage i got was not bad at all, not great, but not bad either....hey, i can'tcomplain, the weather here is nice, they had there "shop gopher" take me to breakfest and i had a good walk back to the shop...ill get moving again tonight and hopefully get a load to the Toledo area, if not, its a long DH with a few late nights in the parking lots of our friendly "Flyin J"....

Re: February 2010 Location
Blizzard, i have been using AmsOil synthic lubs all the way though my van, the owner here is also filling the new trans with it and said it is NOT a waste of money and while you can extend the drain and change intervals, you still need to be aware that is still can overheat and breakdown, so adding the external cooler is a good idea.....
lol, the price here just jumped a bit, the trans lines need to be replaced and while i was checking the trans fluid yesterday, i broke the "dipstick" off at the locking lever.....i got it all out, but it needs replaced....so there is a few more bucks.....There are people in need of help. Re: February 2010 Location
Somewhere I read that a transmission guy once said if transmission temps could be kept under 175 degrees they'd last forever. My van has an external trans cooler on it from the factory, pretty big, actually.I'll put a gauge on it along with an pyrometer gauge and turbo boost gauge, just to see what is going on.Sorry to hear about your trans and lost load. It never happens at a conveinent time.

LOL, yea like at home in my driveway!! while i can R&R the trans myself, its been too many years since i have opened one up myself, so it would still have to go to a shop for that part...and then, i ain't as young as i once was, so chances are, the whole job would have been done at a buddies shop....but such is life as we in this business know it...the chances of breaking down on the road are a awful lot higher then while we are out of service at home...... oh well.....It never happens at a conveinent time. There are people in need of help. Re: February 2010 Location
Guido, FWIW, I got about 480k out of the original trans in my E350 and I'm at about that same mileage on the rebuild. It was rebuilt at the trans shop. The original went with no warning at all. No hard shifts, ect. The rebuild is shifting a bit hard now.

How do you know it was an "old" bug? They stopped making them in I think 2003.
