New Canada Rule For Tie downs
This is NOT carrier Specific...
Tiedowns Must Display Working Load Limits in Canada
Anyone operating in Canada must make sure their tie-downs and other securement devices are marked with a Working Load Limit (WLL). The devices must be marked with their WLLs by the manufacturer.
This law went into effect on Jan. 1, and more information on it can be found at the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators Web sit
Question...Does this apply only to flatbeds? Apparently it apply s to ALL.
This from the site:
The requirement to use rated and marked tiedowns will affect carriers and shippers in Canada and the
United States who use tiedowns to secure cargo – particularly those who use flatbed trucks and trailersLast edited by OntarioVanMan; 01-16-2010 at 10:53 AM.

Re: New Canada Rule For Tie downs
Flatbed straps all have load weight limits on them,at least the new ones do.
The cargo straps for tieng down inside your trailer or van don't. This rule most likely is for the flatbed guys and gals

Re: New Canada Rule For Tie downs
So if a straight truck uses straps to hold down that couple pallets the straps MUST be marked?
are van straps marked or just save the wrapping with the rating?
Another expense for Layout...new straps for Canada.

Re: New Canada Rule For Tie downs
I got pulled over a few days ago with a load of steel on. The ministry guy checked the wll of each strap and the tightness of each strap. Load was only 5200lbs and I had 4 straps of 3300wll on it so was well secured. SO yes they are checking all ready. The new tie down regs also call for 2 straps for the first 10ft and one for each 5ft or so after. The booklets show how they want it done on a truck (they show a flatbed for ease of instruction).

Gee I thought your reading and retention level of info was so high and able to recall the tiniest piece of trivia at a moments notice! You must be aging (hahahaha). Have mentioned it a few times but like you say are we going to remember all the posts on here? Not likely!

Re: New Canada Rule For Tie downs
Ok, I was looking at my tie downs, some are marked, some are not. What is the deal with load bars? I always use load bars for front to back cargo control. I never use straps for other than side to side control. None of my load bars are marked with any kind of breaking strengths etc. Are load bars covered under this goofiness?
