Why in the h%$^ I haven't quit yet? Something must be wrong with me.
Whats with all the empty miles? Look at the difference between empty and loaded miles.HUGE DIFFERENCE.In '09 there were 8,359 empty miles. In '08 there were 13,049 empty miles. No wonder the average for all miles is so low.

A lot of deadhead miles. It does not matter where I am, it takes 2 to 3 days, sometimes even more to get another load. If you catch the weekend somewhere in there, it is even more. Like right now (thurday morning), I delivered around DC. I checked everywhere around here. It is either full of vans, or no freight coming out. So, if I hang around, it will be tuesday next week before I get another load.
I figured it out that it is cheaper to to put some fuel in the tank and wait home than in a truck stop somewhere. Also, I drive my van everywhere, not only for work.
I guess a combination of the two makes up those empty miles.

Red face Re: Year over Year Comparison

not to be negative here, but i see alot of simple math in these numbers posted. what i mean by that is i see total revenue being used for loaded mile pay. does that total revenue figure have dh pay in it, cause if it does then the loaded mi pay is an exagerated number. i would think that all dh pay would need to be subtracted from the gross then that total divided by loaded miles to get a rate for loaded miles only. if my thinking is wrong please let me know cause i keep close watch on mine and i dont want to do it wrong. also what is everyone doing per mi for all mi and for loaded mi after fuel expense is taken out of gross. the last part is what will really hurt to figure w/ the expense of fuel last year. i dont have my last years availiable at this time but will post this year when i have a chance in the next few days. thanks all for your input this will help alot of people if they get good info.

    Re: Year over Year Comparison

2008 in service 106 days from jan1 thru may 24

    47000 miles,34000 loaded $82600 revenue 52 loads

2009 in service 93 days from jan 1 thru may 24

    39000 miles 23000 loaded miles $59363 54 loads

my biggest difference is,I've had more time off, accounting for the greater dead head miles.
