I would have to say that some of us have formed our opinions thru experience.

When you give your opinion on something, you offer a conclusion or a judgment that, although it may be open to question, seems true or probable to you at the time (: she was known for her strong opinions on women in the workplace).

Just because it is not politically correct, it does not mean it's wrong.

No what I am saying is, Seems like some of you (the outspoken few) need to take a deep breath and see the joke for what it was. Quite trying to make it a hate mongering thing. I rarely say the following but if you are so offended by what he said, and seem to want to turn this web site into your vision of what is right and wrong then maybe you would be better served going to a place on the web that fits more closely with your views.

I for one am fed up with vocal minority trying to control the majority. I guess my being blunt will also offend some of you, but I'm not worried about annoying people who get worked up over a HARMLESS joke.

Yes, it does, with the keys to that definition being "without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge." Yet I and my others have seen foreigners, who are unfamiliar, ignorant, or even disrespectful of local customs and do things that were illustrated in the postings. It is a statement made with just grounds and sufficient knowledge. There is a difference between mentioning someone of another race or ethnicity, whether it be in humor or in anger, and being racist. Simply because someone else is of another race does not mean you cannot talk about them, or their habits and customs.

Educate yourselves and try not to fall into the masses, have an original thought and do your thinking for yourselves.

It's ironic that political correctness, by its very nature, its very design, sucks people into the masses, squashes original thought, and discourages thinking for yourself.

To me I find it appauling that a "Mod" would read those comments (that had nothing to do with the thead) and not delete them but instead add to the unintelligent comments already made.

Well, actually, if you followed the thread, the comments did, in fact, directly address the content of the original poster's comments, as he commented several times about the how much time was taken on "what should have been a quick fuel stop". The thread followed a natural progression after that.

The comments in question may or may not be uncalled for, but they certainly weren't even close enough to being racist for anyone to get all bent out of shape over. If you don't pretend that differences exist between races and cultures, then you're a racist? Is that what it's become now? Just like if you don't wholeheartedly embrace and endorse homosexuality, you're a homophobe? Wow.

I don't understand why anyone would go to a web site that they don't like, or that would cause them aggravation. That does not seem like a good (fun, enjoyable) way to pass your time.

I'm with JJ - if we get outraged over every remark that includes stereotypes, or perceived prejudices, we'd be bogged down in recriminations all the time. (No more blonde jokes, or disparaging references to mothers in law, either!)

Sometimes you feel the need to speak up, but Wallytrucker & TennesseeHawk's remarks didn't reach that level, IMO.
I just noticed that in Laredo, even the stop signs now include a translation in Spanish, and I am outraged about that. Accommodating the language and customs of every immigrant group that chooses to come here, is a very bad idea, IMO. I welcome the diversity, but they need to adapt to our culture, not vice versa.

I totaly agree with Blud if I posted more i would probly get in to it more with alot of people on here. So I just am just a "lurker" getting some helpfull information and alot of intertainment form the rest.

Seriously: discussion, debate, and disagreement are all a necessary part of communication, if it's to be effective. We just have to focus on keeping it civil, and then it's a GOOD thing, yes?

Why, do think that it would be necessary to get "into it with a lot of people" on here? I don't understand that logic. I hardly ever feel the need to go keyboard to keyboard with people on here, but that does not mean that I agree with what they post. If you are coming here to keep up to date with what's going on within the industry, and are in fact learning from this site, who would you get into it with? (not by name) To coin the phrase of some of the others: I still don't get it!

What do some of you lurkers find so distasteful? I rarely read people in the full attack mode on here. Even this discussion has been without people attacking one another, unless you want to count the newbie calling someone here a jerk.

I really don't have a dog in this "fight" but if you were to read back, way, way back you would understand what fight here means. There have been some very good people forced to leave this site, by newer people coming on board and starting a bunch of nonsense, which resulted in far better people leaving here. So some of the members that remember that far back don't want to see a repeat of that. If you are unaware of what I'm talking about PM me and I will be happy to give you some screen names to read up on. The old saying "Those that forget history are bound to repeat it" (or something like that) applies here.

The way I read it was, he doesn't necessarily think it's "necessary" to get into it with a lot of people on here, but he knows himself well enough, and he knows the site well enough after lurking here, that if he did post more on here, his opinions would likely be such that he'd get into it with a lot of people on here (read: he's commie liberal), and, at Blud's suggestion, in order to keep his blood pressure readings down, he is, at least for the time being, going to remain on of the countless millions of lurkers who are here for information and the entertainment at watching the conservatives stumble all over themselves trying to avoid the inevitable.
