Re: Who is right
Handle getting hit by it? Hell No! Handle firing it, 1 time!! The recoil and recovery is such that you are only going to get 1 good shot off from a cartrigde of that power and then you will need to think, and re aim. Shot placement I think with a less powerful cartridge is more important and would be better.
If i rememeber it moves at about the same speed as a nato round 5.56/2.23 but at about 5 times the power.
Yea I could shoot it , but just one time and if i miss, whatever is coming after me will be chasing me cause i an running my butt of really fast........well as fast as these old legs will carry be!!
PS: is delta and rangers using these? While I know the military has them, it was my impression it was mostly a BIG game cartridge for knocking down big animals then finishing with a good shot placement.

Re: Who is right
If you are braced correctly in the prone position..yes.
It's the idiots who try and shoulder it who look like an ***..a weapon with that much muzzle velocity..please.
I wont comment on the squids..heh!!
This cartridge is a Big Game hunter only..recoil is too severe to track and engage targets.

Yes the lovely 308 ball and chain.
Now let us not for get the 303 Britttish Enfield nice little gun as well.
Or the 270 Winchester with silver tips.
I must admit the 223 is a must have with the 30 round clip.
But
50 cal sniper is a sure win win for one shot one kill or the 337 ERMA SR100.
what kills me is in the hand gun everyone seems to like the sigs hmm Not me Ill take the Baretta.
OH well.
But inside 21 feet close combat situation give me a good knife.

Re: Who is right
I own a barrett model 99 50 cal, that i haven't shot in close to a yr. At no time as it ever entered my mond to shot that thing standing with it at my shoulder. I understand that many of my family thin i am nuts to even own it, but i'd simply prove the true it is "stood" there and fired it!!

Re: Who is right
Sigs are nice..I'm a Glock man myself..Model 22 (.40S&W).
The .223 round is fine for an assault weapon or varmint gun.
I haven't shot a Barrett type weapon..plinked many a .50 round with the Ma Deuce though..scary what a .50 round can do to man and material.
As for all time greats .30-06 takes it for me...plenty of stopping power and range.
I shoot quite a bit..mainly pistols..but dabble in everything..I like to keep sharp.
Practice and training make a good shooter..better.
Military doctrine dies hard.
