How many of you have “Team Operation In Case of Emergency check bunk” decal?
We were reminded of how important this information can be by a video that was taken on a dash cam of a truck going across Donners Pass last week.
We are members of cldofit.com which is Kevin Rutherford’s site. He has posted a video of a terrible tractor trailer accident going down Donners pass. The web cam captures the tractor trailer out of control passing the truck with web cam and then rolling over the guard rail. From the news reports the body of the driver was recovered and after checking his log books the next day they discovered at that time the truck was team driven and so went back to search. They found the team driver further on down the canyon also deceased. From the news report the driver of this truck had only had his CDL nine days.
This accident was tragic but also made us stop and think about the fact that we say nothing on our truck that this is a team truck. The emergency personal would have to read our log books to discover this truck is team driven. We are now looking for stickers to be placed on both sides of the truck.
I am adding the information for the video not to sensationalize a fatality accident but to show how FAST things like this can happen and also to show how well the driver of the dash cam video truck handled this bad situation.

I watched that video...6 sec was all it took from the time the truck came into the picture until it was over the side! Scarey!
When we head home we have a vinyl shop that we are heading to. Who would know that there are 2 of us if we aren't able to tell them? Thanks for the reminder Linda.

I was also unable to find the "media" tab.

Without seeing the video clip, I can believe that it was a wake up call to all that was able to watch it.

I have a camera on my windshield that is made be DriveCam. It is set so you will see 15 seconds before impact (or incident) and 15 seconds after. It is always on, 24/7. A jar or bump into the truck will activate the camera and save the past 15 seconds, and the next 15.

It kept me from being cited for an accident in Texas because I was able to show the cop the accident, in color, with audio, and the whole works. Before he saw the video clip he believed the other driver. After the little show on the side of the road, the other driver walked away with a serious violation.

The system is a little pricy, but then what is your license worth. Not to mention if someone was hurt and you ended up in court.

I posted on a thread in the Women's Forum (which Garcia the chauvinist never reads) about having a "Team operation" sticker on the truck, (which I didn't put there, the truck was driven by a team before me), and Highway Star wrote that it wasn't good, because in an emergency, the rescue people would be wasting time looking for a codriver. (For those not in on the joke, Garcia is a fictional codriver, not for logging or HOS purposes, but because Terry insisted on putting 2 names on the EO sticker he had made for me. We didn't think Ben & Jerry or the Grateful Dead would mind )
I feel like I'm danged if I do, & danged if I don't! But as it's already on the truck, I'm leaving it there, & if the occasion ever arises, I'll just apologize profusely to anyone who wastes time looking for my codriver.

You know, I almost wish I had not watched that video. I can't get it out of head. We are trying to figure out where we can get labels for our sleeper doors but, so far, the ones on websites are the "create your own" type of thing AND they have to be mailed to our home. Who is ever home?

Cheri, we all know you talk to Garcia as though he is right in the seat beside you. Come on, you can tell us. We are all your best friends. I'll bet you have lengthy conversations with him. What a great guy, huh? He never talks back!

Iowa 80 has been mentioned as a location that has the decals. Some other suggestions are: Jackson, GA, I-75, x-201. Sign shop is by the Loves and chrome shop (that's where I had my graphics done). Indy Flying J, sign shop in the shop area. Big Cabin, OK has some pre-made decals, they may have that one.
I'd also suggest to those with 4-footed co-drivers to follow Molly's example and put that info on truck, also. Dingle had me do that. He even has his logbook info (it says Line 4).

I can see this being a huge problem for the solo women who do not want to advertise they are a solo. Cheri your Garcia stickers were good on your van but I think the check bunk would sure slow down and hinder a rescue effort. If you did not have those check bunk signs but had Garcia on the door the rescue personal could look at the log books and see that you did not have a co driver.

I have to admit I never really wanted any signs on the truck as they are usually ugly but after seeing that accident and wondering if the co driver was alive for a little bit would those signs have saved their life?

GottaGo you brought up a good point on our pets. We had some friends who wrecked their semi and only one dog was found. They insisted they could not get into the ambulance till other dog was found and she was hiding in her dog house. She would have died if they had not went back for her due to outside conditions. Both humans and dogs were fine and back to trucking.
