Re: Driving Music
Opie and Anthony in the mornings 6-11 ish. CNBC or Ron and Fez in the early afternoon (once the price of oil fell below 120 I could listen to CNBC without getting depressed), it's good background noise.
At night, XM 48, a bit of Kevin on 171.
If I feel a bit groggy, I have Shinedown's latest CD and a subwoofer that says wakey wakey in a special way!
If all else fails, the Duramax does have a pleasant hum.

Re: Driving Music
I used to play Cds, (even danced in the seat, sometimes, to get the circulation going), until I discovered Audible.com. (Thanks to Linder & Terry ) Now, I download audiobooks to CD, soon to be to Garmin. (I know Linder uses an iPod, but I don't have one), and the hours just zoom by!
I've noticed, though, that my brain considers spoken words to be something that MUST be paid attention to - I can't fall asleep to the tv, or a talk show, kind of thing, so audiobooks keep me awake & alert. If your brain is the kind that finds talking just the right thing to fall asleep to, music is a better choice.
Tuckster: try renting an audiobook at a truckstop, (or borrowing from the library) to see how you like it.
Butterfly: be careful with the headphones - I believe they're illegal, while driving.....

Re: Driving Music
I always preferred to listen to the "horse" for a hiccup, or a bleep, or sumpin that would alert ya to some difficulty. Sounds of the road will entertain ya, and prolly keep ya outa some long term or costly things that'll make ya whine on this site.

Well, things don't always go as planned. The long run we were pre-dispatched on, canceled and turned into $11 of dry run pay.

Re: Driving Music
There's nothing better than listening to John Denver's Greatest Hits while driving down the West Virginia Turnpike or on !-40 east of Knoxville.

Re: Driving Music
XM Stations: Watercolors, Soul Street, R & B, any of the classical stations, and of course - America Right.
The best deal however, is the Ipod and Itunes. You can find almost any song and/or artist you've ever heard and download songs for 99 cents or less. Yahoo! music is also good because you can find the songs even if you only know partial lyrics. Go ahead and get the 80 Gig Ipod so you'll have enough room to download 10-20 thousand songs and still have space for movies, books, etc. You can usually find them on Ebay for under $200 and they're worth every cent. Other MP3 players are good too, but Itunes seems to have the best selection of songs.
