Have you seen this?
We were traveling westbound on I-20 towards Atlanta and saw an expediter with Fed Ex Freight signs on it. Could it be the future of Fed Ex?

Re: Have you seen this?
Fedex Freight are contractors just as Fedex CC are. He may have been running a smaller linehaul for the LTL division. Basically, it's just whatever truck the owner brings to the table.

Re: Have you seen this?
I thought Freight and National LTL were the company drivers and Ground, CC, and Home Delivery were the ICs? Could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. I know I have seen some FedEx Freight Cargo Vans, but I just assumed with fuel being what it is FedEx only sends out however big of a truck they need to do that route that day.

Re: Have you seen this?
It just adds fuel to the rumour of Ground and surfaceCC merging in the future and just having WG as a standalone special services division......Ground has the same trucks as CC vans Cubes straights...

Re: Have you seen this?
Ground also has the tractors pulling doubles. Who knows what is going to happen in the future. I know the only Ground vehicle I see resembling a straight truck are the ones used for local p/d and the delivery trucks similar to the ones UPS uses. Although it is a good story for the rumor mill.
I mean how many people honestly think these big companies are concerened about the ICs well being first? They do what is good for them and if it works out for the IC so be it, and if it doesn't so be it.

Re: Have you seen this?
Surface CC is dying a slow death...why not merge it with ground for a combined service? Ground is capable of doing everything surface can do....

Re: Have you seen this?
Exactly. That would benefit the company more than it would the ICs. If they wanted to benefit the Ics they would be out looking for new business. If they are dying a slow death. If what you have been doing is not working it's time to try something else. I have always said you can't keep doing the same thing and hope for different results, but some people just don't get it.

Re: Have you seen this?
So just where is CC anyways? not on Corporate logos...no ads...not on the stock report of division activity..does it make money? is it losing money? who knows....CC could disappear and the public wouldn 't know it ever existed...Can't make a living on 1 or 2 loads a week unless they are high mileage loads....seems only WG is doing better....
And the rates surface is offering O/O's are terrible...every trip nearly is negotiated. I have sufficient sources for my opinions.

Re: Have you seen this?
Coco, Saw something like it a while ago in Memphis. I know that the supply chain people have a different looking logos... who works for supply chain here?
OVM,
Ground -> express
CC/WG -> freight/supply chain respectively
CC not doing well?
I heard somewhere from the premiere WG team that there is so much business that they are turning down a lot of loads, so many loads that they are getting tired of answering the phone.
Someone in Surface mentioned that same thing, the new dispatching system is working so well that they are running and running and running - making them big bucks.
Reality is.... well... that is something that you just have to experience first hand.
Oh and if I sound sarcastic, I am.... I just got off the phone with one of the former E-1 straight truck people who went to FedEx, made great money until... well the same time I started to have problems. He decided to throw in the towel, trading up his simple 600 and getting a "real truck for once". I would find it really hard to believe that he 'failed' due to not knowing how to handle finances or not being able to learn it but seems to be a problem with the lower rates he gets. Can't make it with a $1.05 a mile.

Wouldn't say that CC Surface is dying at all. All expedite is facing a possible economic starvation. You just have to continue to make yourself relevant to survive. ICs who have a list of "I don't do this, I won't go here" will continue to choke themselves out of existence. Same with carriers who do that.

Well I expect the thread moved to the FedEx closet because FedEx is mentioned.

Re: Have you seen this?
Maybe dying a slow death is abit extreme....how about in transistion? Load offers for C at a 1.00 - 1.20 isn't going to cut it....and not able to "squeeze" the log book at that.
