Re: Have you seen this?
I don't know because I'm no longer on the road, but it seems from what I read it's a whole new ball game all the way around. Regardless of who you are leased to. Bottom line everyone wants something for nothing, and to make matters worse there are people out there that will give it to them. Not to long ago I heard someone say they took a load in a d-unit for a flat rate of 80 cents per mile. No fsc, no dh, nothing. That's crazy. It was an expedite load. Their excuse was it go them to a better area and beat dhing. Well thanks for cutting yours and everyone else in the industry's throat.

Re: Have you seen this?
Load offers for C at 1.00 to 1.20 not going to cut it. Have you checked Panther, Tri-state, or E1, there rates for a C or D are all between 1.10 to 1.20. And how about there van rates, .70 to .80. When you talk about low rates from Fedex just remember that they have to lower there rates to be competitive with these companies. I am an independent that deals directly with shippers, no brokers or partner carriers, and I can tell you that I have been told by a couple of shippers that Panther can give them a cargo van for 1.24 a mile. Now I may be a mom and pop carrier but I am not going to run that cheap.

Re: Have you seen this?
You some times people tell you that stuff to see if you will lower your price. It's kinda like when I worked in the cb business. I would quote a rate on an install and the driver would tell me they could get it done for this cheaper price and that cb shop elsewhere. I'd then tell them to let that cb shop elsewhere do it then. Usually they would come up with a lame excuse about why they were going to let me do it. I always offered a 30 warranty on my labor. I stood behind that to. You can't get alot of those shops to stand behind what they do the next day, but that is a different thread.
I really thought I wanted to get back into trucking from more of a management aspect after graduation, but I don't know if I do or I don't anymore.

Fastrod...not disagreeing at all that rates are low for most carriers...I just don't think the Feds will continue at this rate...they have the advantage of many divisions...They work Ground and Home as peons as well...

Re: Have you seen this?
I would normally agree with this idea that they need to be competitive but here is the thing, they are the second largest package handling company in the world, they have the resources, they have the sales and they especially have the brand. We look at things on a small scale, thinking that they need to be competitive by lowering the rates, yada yada yada but the truth is that they fail to leverage their size and sales staff to put pressure on the competition and they know it.
They don't care because there is a bigger picture that Memphis looks at.

Re: Have you seen this?
As a child I remember my Uncle Gene taking some serious heat from other family members for being a Cubs fan. Growing up n the St Louis Metro East area, most eveyone suppproted the Cardinals. Year after year by the time July rolled around my sympathies for Uncle Gene grew more intense. But as I got older I realized not only was he a Cubs fan, he was a man made of honesty and he truly stood by what he believed in even if he didn't share his beliefs with others. This made a lifelong impression on me and one that I have hopefully passed on to my children.
Now, as for the Cubs....this just might be their year. And, if it isn't, wait till next year. Because that's what I believe. My true desire is that the would at least win the series in my lifetime because Uncle Gene is already gone. I'd love to tell him when I se him.

that Fed Ex will tell you doesn't exist yet. I have seen
several of these. One at the LG in Romelus MI one at
LG in Atlanta Ga and 1 the other day in Memphis on the road.

Re: Have you seen this?
I saw a day cad tractor for CC sitting in front of Ryder in Orlando at one time. It was probably supplied just to move around trailer drops.

Re: Have you seen this?
No these were daycab straight trucks. Small cabs with C & D
unit bodies attached. I personally talked to the guy in
Atlanta LG and he said all you have to do is ask to run one.. but the company told me they didn't exist.. if you know what I mean.

The FedEx CC day cabs are local/regional drivers only. I ran into a bunch of them in Romeoville last year and they only take loads to the drop and head right back home.

Re: Have you seen this?
FedEx Freight are company drivers. It says so on FedEx's website.
Express,Freight and Trade Networks are employees of FedEx.
Custom Critical,Ground/HD are contractors. Ground linehaul is also cotnractors.

Yeah, I know. I saw one in the Fedex photo at Kinkos, but I just figured it was Photoshopped. Fedex has never really marketed CC in any of their ads. As far as day cabs go, the name of the game is supplying what your customer needs, when he needs it. If LG has an account with CC and needs a couple of vehicles for local delievery or dedicated routes, you betcha CC will come up with whatever is required.

Re: Have you seen this?
Well IRT, go change. Save you pennies, start collecting bottles and when you hit michigan, go get some of that good deposit money, start looking for a $15k tractor and change to an owner.
Look I meant not day cab tractors, I mean small c and d units without sleepers. Sorry, should have been more clear.
FedEx may not admit to them, but so what. They say there is no favoritism, there is no dispatching around people, there is only fairness and harmony, so I would not expect them to admit to something to p*ss off CC contractors. AND yes these are CC contractors.
By the way, there are freight contractors who fill in. Trade networks use contractors in their customs office and supply chain (*wg equals) are contractors. I thought most of Express people in the trenches are contractors.
