Re: Watch your speed

"...he used to shout at speeders to slow down..."

"Dressed in a reflective vest, wearing a bicycle helmet and armed with a Hot Wheels brand radar gun, he points and records the speed of passing traffic."

"...resident George Ayers said he has seen drivers lock up their brakes when they saw Landon clocking them."

Ah, the perfect little tattle-tail in training, a sure fire future Hall Monitor. One of these days little 11-year-old Landon Wilburn will get the snot stomped out of him. A natural born test subject for a brand new stun gun from the TA.

Re: Watch your speed

isn't radar guns supposed to out of the hands of children because of the Cancer risk?

Once upon a time there were a number of cancer cases among cops because of the radar transmitters were inside the car, hence a lack of proper shielding and now you very rarely see a radar transmitter inside the car.

You know I stand corrected, the article is correct, the news report I saw this morning said something about a real radar gun.

Can't even trust Detroit news stations anymore.

Another twist to this is Police unveil cardboard cops

Can you tell which one is real?

(the motor cop is fake, the one in the baseball hat isn't.)

Re: Watch your speed

pa troopers used to have a car sitting on 81 with the radar gun on window sitting in middle and it would set off radar dectorer and people would slow down
and somebody stopped and put dunkin donuts in car
they where not happy about that
was in paper for a while
and they would move the car around and sometimes they would have a real trooper in car and down the road one was waitting for the call to pull someone over

Re: Watch your speed

Well yes and no, they are radar guns, they use the same basic principles but they are no law enforcement or military radar guns nor are they capable of much in accuracy.

They have less than a milliwatt of power (some have a bit more at 1.5 milliwatts) and they fall below the FCC microwave requirements on power density.

On the other hand the real ones (which I am referring to) range from 7 to 25 milliwatts of power, the lower power ones don't fall under the same requirements for power density. They should not to be used as toys and should require some sort of licensing.

So I stand on the hot wheels radar gun is a toy, like many of the ones that are on the market and use AAA batteries.

Re: Watch your speed

The first "dummy car" I ever saw was on I95 in Lumberton, NC. Sure slowed people down.

I thought the kid in the article was pretty smart. He is slowing down the speeders in his neighborhood.

I have no problem with the kid doing this. I'm sure mine isn't the only street ppl treat as a speedway. And stop signs? What, pray tell are those for?
