San Diego Parking
We are headed to San Diego, and will have 4 days layover there. We'll also be picking up our next load there as well. Any suggestions on where to park for those days? Help!

Re: San Diego Parking
When we went we went to Sam Clemente state park that has RV hook ups. They have showers, laundry, and stuff nearby.
Also, just a short walk from the Ocean.fleet owner

Re: San Diego Parking
That would be awesome!! Thanks Dave
We were hoping for something like that since we're in a straight truck and we have the ability to hook up to shore power.
I'm off to search the net...for Sam Clemente State Park

Re: San Diego Parking
Shouldn't have any problem as there are numerous links. State of CA state parks will have the rates if you have any problem.
One of my favorite places when out west and we were waiting on a load. But, there are so many.fleet owner

Re: San Diego Parking
I would go about 25 miles north on I 5 to a town called Encinitas.Go west off the interstate and you will come to Hwy 101,continue on for about 2 blocks and there is a large lot ovrlooking the beach and you should be able to stay there. Lots of restaurants and shops close by.
We have spent several weekends there,it is a pleasant town and appears to be . Going east off the exit will take you over a serious hill to a typical suburban town with the Walmarts etc.Last edited by RichM; 03-10-2008 at 09:53 PM.

Re: San Diego Parking
In nearby Coronado, Ocean Blvd. is an easy truck route. Highway 75 leading to it is a little tighter but doable. Ocean Blvd. runs right along a public beach that has a building with bathrooms. A couple blocks away is the downtown area that features lots of eateries and interesting shopping. The street is free of parking restrictions. We parked there for a good part of a day and enjoyed what time we had to spend.
Your maps may show a toll bridge leading to Coronado. Tolls are no longer charged. It was a gray day when we were there so photos did not turn out well. One is attached to give you a sense of the parking and beach. You might enjoy a day trip to Coronado. We would have liked to stay longer.Last edited by ATeam; 03-10-2008 at 11:53 PM. Re: San Diego Parking
What I'm finding online is RV's limited to 35ft. Has anyone had issues with length? We are delivering to the convention center and would like to limit the deadhead

Re: San Diego Parking
We didn't , and they didn't ask. I quess if they did, you could say I think it is 35 foot?
We went several times and it wasn't asked.
Additionally, we had a truck there last week and they didn't have a problem.fleet owner

Re: San Diego Parking
Diane reminds me about fuel. It is wise to arrive in the San Diego with tanks near full. The familiar truck stop brands are not found in San Diego.

Re: San Diego Parking
Pelican!!! You got my load! Was put on it Thurs for Tues pick-up in Illinois. Best run we had in 4 and 1/2 years with Panther. Had to call them Mon morning and tell them that my co-driver is in the hospital after being rear-ended in her personal vehicle on Sunday (had gone to Cosco to buy supplies for the trip!). Janice is still in the hospital and I will be going solo for awhile. I just wanna wait long enough to make certain she'll be okay before I hit the road again.
As for the load, they couldn't have picked better substitutes!

Re: San Diego Parking
I'm sorry we got it under these circumstances, but you are correct it is a sweet load! I hope your co-driver gets better quick.
We wondered why it was booked so long ago and we just got it. Now we know.
Dave, thanks for the info.. I didn't think to "estimate" the length LOL
Phil, tell Dianne thanks for the reminder. We planned on having full tanks before we got there.
Rich, may try Encinitas first, since it's going to be closer to our delivery.
We appreciate all the help

We ended up staying at the KOA Campground San Diego. It's a very nice place, lot's of friendly people, patrolled by campground security 24 hrs and best of all QUIET! I would like to thank everyone for the suggestions they gave us. We will keep these in mind for the next "mini vacation"
