Great New Toy
My son gave us a *NeatReciepts* scanner for Christmas. What a great toy!!! It a small scanner but it can scan any length paper up to 8 1/2 inches wide. Most reciepts are printed on thermal paper that fades out over time. Not good if you need them for and IRS audit. We used to get home and spend most of a day scanning in toll/fuel/ whatever
reciepts. Now we can do it in the truck as we aquire them. We also use it to scan in paper work, like government BOL's, in case there is a problem getting paid etc. He bought it at
TigerDirect.com and I think it cost around $250.00. The software is accepted by the IRS if audited. Layoutshooter

Re: Great New Toy
We bought one (NeatReceipts) last year. It performs as advertised. I especially like its compact size. This scanner takes up very little space in the truck. I don't like the fact that it will not clearly scan very fine print on thermal paper, such that I can fax such print to someone else. These print outs that I want to fax are barely readable in the original, so it is not a reason to avoid the product. For all other documents, it works great.
For incoming faxes sent directly to the truck, there are online services that cost little. If you find yourself stopping a lot at truck stops or other places for incoming or outgoing faxes, NeatRecpeits and online fax services may be something to consider.
Think about it. If your truck gets 10 mpg, and you drive 50 miles out of your way to send or receive faxes each month, that's over $15.00 spent on fuel, plus the costs of the faxes themselves. Depending on the amount of faxing you do, this device and online services can pay for themselves over time.
The bonus is the time you save by not making a special trip or special stop to send or receive a fax.
You would think that with the internet and e-mail and .pdf documents and such, old-technology faxing would eventually fade away. At present, faxing remains alive and well.
That's a bummer that forces Diane and me to carry an unwanted device in the truck and subscribe to an unwanted service. The sooner faxing dies as a communications method of choice, the less money we will spend on faxes, and the more money will stay in our pocket.Last edited by ATeam; 01-24-2008 at 02:42 PM. Re: Great New Toy
We also use NeatReceipts and until we had to purchase a new laptop with Vista on it, it worked great!
With Vista, we had to purchase the latest upgrade to NeatReceipts, with that, we now have a problem. When printing a copy of the receipt/document it prints "shrunkin" images. The only tech support suggestion was "scan to PDF" and adjust the size. It works but it's extra steps that we didn't have to do before.
