Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
News reports say over a dozen wildfires are burning out of control in Southern California. As of this morning, over 260,000 people have been evacuated, 600 homes have been destroyed and 384 square miles have burned.
Have any expediters been affected by or involved in this?

RE: Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
Every year we here of these destructive fires...
Why don't they have a grass eradication(control) program out 1 mile from all housing? Wouldn't it be cheaper then all this every year?

RE: Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
OVM,
You really got to spend some time out there, they built house upon house on the hills and in the valleys, they won't clear out brush and dead wood in some areas for fear that it may bother some bird or frog. I saw on the teli yesterday where I was sitting when I was out there is now gone.
It really is amazing when you see a house burn up and some movie star in tears being so upset over the loss, I would rather hear real people who we all can help. I hear that they are having fund raiser concert soon to help out the hard up movie stars replaced their $5 to $10 million houses.

On the flip side some just maybe truely stuck in thier situation and can't get anything done about it cuz they are surrounded by stars and high profile people....save a toad, burn a house.

RE: Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
its usually the underbrush that keeps the fires raging...when they used to log, they cut logs or trees then
they cleaned the under brush away from the surrounding trees which resulted in less out of control fires....then along came the tree huggers, and spotted owl society, the so claimed do gooders that wanted a voice...well i bet we dont hear a thing from them during or after the fires..of course they will and could never admit to being wrong, or to take any type of blame..so i guess we will just have to eat spotted owl for awhile..:7

Somehow I think it will turn into a Micheal Moore plot and everyone will blame Bush.

RE: Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
Basically, every couple of years they get more rain than normal and the grass grows up thick on the mountains. Then the summer heat turns the grass brown and dry. Along come some stray cig butts, a camp fire gone bad or even a bit of lightning, and the whole thing goes up in flames. After that they get the rain again, which puts out the fires, but causes mudslides due to the lack of trees and grass to stop the erosion. Then all of the nice homes in Malibu that survived the flames just wash down the embankment.

RE: Any Expediters Affected by California Fires?
Seriously bad news. I have family and friends out there. My niece lives just off Sunset, and they can see the smoke from their house. They are up high on the ocean side tho, and have not been moved yet. They are watching closely tho.
Last count almost 1,000,000 people had been evacuated, and over 1500 homes destroyed. Qualcomm stadium is now being used as a shelter.

The wife's nephew and his spouse live up in the Canyons around SD - they're fine and were evacuated .... but no word on their house yet.
Her niece (sister of the nephew) is getting married in November ..... in SD .... dunno if that's going to happen at this point or not.

Hey OTVM,your the reason we have bumber stickers that say "Welcome to California now go home"!If I were from Ontario(thank God I'm not) I would probably say something just as silly as you have.I've been there and between the bugs in the summer and the ugly winters, and the rude people(speak French or no service) well, whats the use.Come spend your money at Dizzyland and wear your funny bermunda shorts and sun burn your big white legs and SPEND LOTS OF MONEY.
I'm headed to the beach to catch a wave or two.
