    Maximum GVWR

Can anyone point me to the DOT regulation or publication that states the maximum GVWR of a vehicle that is not subject to hours of service logs?

    RE: Maximum GVWR

"For commercial vehicles, 10,001 pounds is a significant threshold. Any vehicle that operates in interstate commerce (crossing state lines, furthering interstate commerce) and weighs 10,001 pounds or more must comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). These safety regulations include: driver qualification, hours of service, accident reporting and vehicle inspection and maintenance. (Note: A vehicle of any size that carries a placardable amount of hazardous materials is also subject to compliance with the FMCSRs.)"

That was from this site, Light and Medium Truck magazine:

Although the Fed DOT doesn't require a vehicle to run a log, you must also comply with your single state authority rulings.

In most cases the states go along with the Fed DOT, but some enforce the 100 mile rule.

It is best to check with both, and follow the single state rules as well.

GVW rules are covered under section 395 in the FMSR handbook. If you look at the drivers guide to the FMCSR on page 274 relating to Part 395 HOS Rules,it tells you that vehicles that have a GVW or GCW over 10,001 pounds must log.

I assume that the information above means that a Sprinter with duals is supposed to be logging. Is that correct? I assume the GVW of a Sprinter with duals is over 10,000 lbs.

Sprinter VAN with duals are under 10,000. The Sprinter cab/chassis with duals are 10,200 GVWR.
