    Darth Vader's Bathroom

Okay, a couple of weeks ago I was on my way to Miami with a hazmat load and I got stopped for a safety inspection at the scales south of Atlanta. I was being courteous and helpful to the officer, and he really seemed to be enjoying checking out all of the gadgets on my truck. We had a nice rapport going, and when he told me he weighed 310 pounds, I told him I would never believe he weighed an ounce over 280. He wrote me up for having a "nonfunctional fire extinguisher latch." This struck me as so ridiculous that I was certain he was kidding around. When I realized he wasn't I asked him what on earth he was talking about. He said that there seemed to be a little looseness in the fire extinguisher mounting bracket in my truck. As he said this he was looking at me like "my boss told me that every safety inspection has to result in some kind of problem being noted or I'm not doing my job." In the midst of this awkward exchange he explained that in the event of an accident the fire extinguisher could become an airborne projectile, and this is where it got funny. As he said this, he seemed to think to himself for a second and then said that with all the other electronic stuff I've got in my truck (backup camera monitor, satellite radio receiver, navigation system, tire pressure monitoring system display, laptop computer, etc.)if I got in an accident there would probably be stuff flying all over the place. In his Georgia drawl he said matter of factly: "The inside of your truck looks like Darth Vader's bathroom."

I've been laughing about that comment ever since. I can't get the image out of my head of my truck cab being Darth Vader's bathroom.

While I'm on the subject of Star Wars, you know that Han Solo was an expediter. He was sitting at the spaceship truck stop waiting for a load when we met him in the first Star Wars movie. As best I can tell after taking the crew to the Death Star in the first movie he was deadheading for the rest of the movies.

What do you suppose Darth would sound like if he were in the stall next to you?

I sure don't know what I'd think if I heard that weird heavy breathing in the next stall.
Retired but still lookin for that next load.

The voices in my head are whispering "go back ... go back"
