Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
I love it!!
This would be the best suggestion for our CEO!
See:
https://www.expeditersonline.com/for...l-freight.html
What if our 2 top execs were to step up to bat and do what these execs are doing.
To make it meaningful they would have to be given a spreadsheet of all of the expenses of the truck that they are in. They would need to try to meet the expenses of the truck and show a reasonable profit for the week.
Oh, and make it a surface truck.
This would be a huge learning experience and a wake up call. This is why some companies require execs to be cross trained in all areas of the business.
You need to walk a mile in someone elses shoes before you can even begin to relate to their situation.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
Virginia has done this more then once she just did not blog about it. Many of the middle management people in the office have done ride alongs in different sizes of trucks. They are very interesting to talk to as they were just as frustrated as us over not getting enough load offers. Even though they know that no loads mean no load offers they still were able to feel the frustration of waiting for the load then finding something they really wanted to do then getting a load and have to walk away from their fun.
There is no true way to do this without them buying a truck, making sure the home refrigerator is cleaned out, trying to make payments, and making sure that dispatch does not have a clue what truck they are in!Last edited by TeamCaffee; 12-07-2009 at 06:15 PM. Reason: added word

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
I ran across one person at HQ who did this and they stayed at hotels. A little unrealistic.
Thanks for the info.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
What I envisioned was this (I am number 6): offer goes out to top 3, all decline, offered to next three, #4declines, 5&6 both accept, 5 gets the load. Next offer declined by 1,2,3, 4 & 5 both accept, 4 gets the load. I have moved up, granted, but wondered if accepting the offers should perhaps pass me by one or two ahead of me. Just a thought, an incentive to take some of the less attractive loads if it means you might drop down a spot.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
Perhaps 4 or 5 accepts with no run would give you a <75 status if trucks ahead of you are refusing?
It would sure give the "they are out to get me" guys a whole new way to rant.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
It would be very nice for vans to go back to the percentage pay, instead of miles. Between the first of the year and end of August when I went in a tractor trailer I made half the money I made last year in the same period. I know the economy is worse this year than last, but not quite that bad.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
Ok, how about this: Today we ran a radmat load. We took the run yesterday. FedEx neglected to get the permits prior to pick-up even though they had a full 24 hours to get them. It cost us an hour waiting. When loads are booked they should insure all routing and permits right away. Don't wait until we start a departure call. It is too late then.
Also, the new secure service business, how about putting the fact that a load is part of that service in the OFFER! We took ANOTHER load today that the secure service part showed up as a "surprise" AFTER we took the load. When we are offered a load we should know ALL the requirement PRIOR to accepting or declining it. To spring ANOTHER requirement on AFTER it is accepted is just plain wrong.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
One item I would like to see changed is when the directions to the customer are taken from internet that the person who enters the directions would make a notation that they are from the internet.

Re: The FECC suggestion/complaint box
That would help a lot. The internet is NOT the most reliable place for directions. Then again, neither is the secretary that gives you directions based on the way she goes to work. She somehow NEVER noticed that 12'10" low clearance 1/2 mile before you get to the plant!! LOL!!
