I would think that you have been in contact with the recruiting dept. concerning putting a unit like this on with the fleet,if not then you had better get in contact with them as I do know they are going to limit the number of these types of vans.

With that being said, they are the ones that can steer you in the right direction as far as getting any info on them.

    I do know that they are quite pricey. ( $85,000 ??? )

You would need to call into FCC and talk to your CR and they could direct you to the right person you need to talk with. Last I heard the BR units being added to the fleet were by invitation only.

What type of ideas or information are you looking for??

My wife and I were at Stoops Freightliner in Fort Wayne this past week and saw two of these units being sold and they had plans to make quite a few more. They are priced in the 80's and they were TVal ready.

I'm sure Stoops sales could give you plenty of info regarding price and specs; however, as others have stated, the first step is to check with your recruiter at Fed Ex CC about requirements and eligibility.

This is an interesting new market. It needs watching. I wish I had a few hundred thou to play with. I have an idea that would blow the exsiting unit out of the water. Money sucks, you never have what you need when you need it.

I live in orlando, florida and am running for fed ex express dedicated to west coast. I dont work fed ex custom critical so thats going to be a problem? I think this area would be good br unit territory. I have new cascadia 110 inch sleeper and have had plenty of offers to run small reefer loads all the time. But cant take them to small loads.

Re: New br unit information needed

I talked with a FedEx Custom Critical official at the Expo about the new BR units that are being brought onto the fleet. I shared with him, and he confirmed, that there are two ways of looking at this, with just one of them being correct.

The first way is that the BR TVAL units will canibalize the one and two skid loads that CR and DR trucks are hauling now, thereby reducing CR and DR TVAL loads and revenue.

The second way is that BR units provide an additional level of customer service to existing and new TVAL customers that straight trucks and big rigs do not now provide. Those new and enhanced relationships will result in more TVAL freight for trucks of all sizes.

Not surprisingly, the FDCC official said that the second way of looking at it is the correct way. I would take this with grain of salt except for one thing.

The load we are on right now is from a location we have never been to before and the notes say "BR-unit OK." It seems a BR-unit was not available and we got the load instead. The money is good and we are happy to haul the freight. In this case, at least, we did not lose a load to a BR unit, we got a load because of the new BR market that FDCC is developing.

I spoke with them at the expo. My understanding was the units would be regional rather than the typical anywhere/everywhere of the remainder of expediting in part due to the lack of sleeper accomodations in the van. Units would be added in those areas with markets strong enough to support them. It is a very interesting unit and I'm anxious to see where the markets develop.

If you are interested in the BR unit and not just a refrigerated van call Jeff Jones at Stoops Specialty Trucks he could then point you in the right direction. If you are wanting to have a BR unit leased on to FCC you need to call a recruiter and they will get you to the right person.

I am pretty sure that these units have a sleeping area.

Re: New br unit information needed

The sleeper area is a partitioned area just like any other Midway sleeper. The difference is the content. There is a bed that lifts for storage area below. There is a small countertop above an open cabinet like space. The cabinet like space will hold a 2.x cubic foot refrigerator however there is no refrigerator. It's inclusion would drive the empty weight of the van over the limit for hauling 1500#, the minimum required by Fedex. There is no microwave, no tv, no cabinets, nothing of the comfort amenities in the sleeper of a standard Sprinter. So yes, there is a sleeper per se but not one you'd want to live in for weeks at a time. My brevity interfered with clarity on that one. Sorry.

Re: New br unit information needed

As Phil stated our BR's are developing a new area of TVAL shipment. Do we go to the same places as the bigger units, yes sometimes. Are we taking loads from them, no. Most of our stops are new customers and the loads average 61 pounds (this is on the east coast). FECC sales have been hitting new customers hard with info and a few dog and pony shows and it's paying off. Not only for the BR's but some additional loads for the bigger units. On the east coast these solo BR's are doing well, but when you start heading west the excessive loaded miles will require teams (JMO) and that's still to be seen. FECC is taking the program slow, watching areas grow, and only adding units when an area has already been develped.

I forgot to mention, that as H2D stated; if you just want info on the actual BR vehicles you should contact Jeff Jones at Stoops, Ft. Wayne. He is the point of sales and builder of these units. Everyone is correct when they say contact Recruiting at FECC for info on this program is the first step.
