New Holiday In Ont

Today is the 18th of Feb and the first Family Day. The Ont gov't when it was re-elected in Oct last year made this holiday (one of the few election promises kept). So we are supposed to be enjoying a day off. Quite afew businesses have closed for the day and others are just keeping things going on some lines (due to commitments). Since it's a holiday in the US it makes a good fit this year.

I know the last thing this industry needs is another holiday but that's what we have to deal with. I'm just sitting on standby waiting. Well alright having coffee and looking at lots of ice... guess I'm going to have to salt the driveway my trucks in or it aint going too far.

Don't we still have groundhog day as well? Better known as Heritage Day?

Re: New Holiday In Ont

My God, how many more holidays are you all getting?

Canada is going to be like France with their 'holidays';
Jour de l'An
Partie à la maison de Paris
Quatrième Jour De République
Pâques
Du Martyre
Lundi de Pâques
Fête du Travail
République
Victoire
Des Femmes
Ascension
Courez le jour parti
Pentecôte
Deuxième Jour De République
Lundi de Pentecôte
Fête Nationale
A obtenu un jour de lettre
Assomption
Toussaint
Jour D'Armistice
Liberté, Égalité, jour de Fraternité
Jour de truffes
Noël
Jour de vin blanc et de fromage
Troisième Jour De République
Ramadan
Kurban Bayramı

I heard that they are thinking of having a De Gaul day and Jerry Lewis day.

What? are the Canadians going to get the obligatory 12 weeks of vacation on top of the 27 holidays?

I only post this because when I worked with my French colleagues, I had a hard time scheduling meetings - someone was always on vacation. Some times a few of us would schedule world wide conferences and no one from France would show up, they had a holiday and expected us to know that. Just the opposite was the Aussies, we would suggest a time and they would be there, even at 3 am (their time) to attend our meetings and seem never to have holidays or vacations.

But in truth, I am jelous of the French because of their 'Jour de vin blanc et de fromage' holiday.

Re: New Holiday In Ont

Well Greg we're not quite that bad yet. Only ten stat holidays in Ontario so far. I've lived in both Quebec and France. Yes the French in France do have a lot of holidays and most enjoy more weeks off for vacation than the average north american. Quebec is waiting for their independance so they can institute all those other days off.

OVM yup the caw has their time off and definitely their break times.

Oh well only us owner/operators work all week anymore or those who are in the lower income brackets and need to work two jobs.

So now all we need is a vacation package for our business. Anyone out there got ideas???

Well did anyone read the list?

I get several magazines and ezines from both France and England every month and I noticed that the adversing for vacation getaways seems to be using more ad space than in previous years. These are not ads for visiting the states or Canada but the Middle East, Egypt, Africa and Morraco. Some of them are priced really good, like an Egyptian get away for 900 pounds for a week.

Are the Europeans planning on colonizing these tourist spots or what?

Re: New Holiday In Ont

I'd like to check out the new Holiday Inn in Ontario. Does anybody know what city it is located in? Does it have plug-ins and a sauna?

I'm not trying to get a soapbox forum thread going here but, I wonder if that has anything to do with the increase in Middle Eastern/Muslim immigrants that are coming into those nations? Just a thought.

Re: New Holiday In Ont

Hey Joe...maybe theres some simularities here....between expediting and immigration....when we go abroad and a local asks how it is in America our egos swell and we tell everyone just how great it is over here and that makes them want to come....just as an expeditor tells a newbie just how well he's doing??? Just a thought maybe we should tellem a lie...how bad it is...bad politicians, over taxed, underfunded education for your kids, crime running rampant, over crowded prisons, 1 in every 100th citizen in jail,
