I have read through some of the posts and understand I should read a years worth of posts to see if the business is for me. I am in the process of reading back a year on several forums, but would like to find out if I can be hired. I applied online here at EO to all of the companies on the multiple link. That was 10 days ago and I have not had one response.

I have also contacted a couple of owners about driving for them and they recommended applying on line to the companies they drive for. Still no response. I have had a CDL B for 12 years with a passanger endorsement (I used to drive bus and limos). I have nothing adverse on my license. Only ticket in 25 years was a seatbealt violation 3 years ago. I have no criminal record and I can pass all drug tests.

I live in S Florida, is that a problem?

Is there any way to "rent" a truck for a short period of time and then lease?

I also have a friend who has a 24ft box 4300 International that I could sign up with, but it is not a sleeper. He could be the owner of the truck and I would be the driver.

I would prefer to drive for someone more familiar with the business to learn from an experienced owner.

Any suggestions would be apprecieated.

You could try posting an ad on the Classifieds here, I have seen others do this. Not sure if it works, but worth a shot?
From what I've read, you're probably not in the best location for this, but if you're willing to be out, maybe you'll be able to team with someone.

I would imagine you discovered that South Florida is not the ideal location for an expedite driver to be domiciled. Florida is so hard to find freight out of for most expedite companies.

I always suggest that drivers or contractors living in Florida contact Landstar.

I have contacted landstar via online application, should I be more proactive and call? Is the fact that I do not have 1 year OTR going to stop me from moving Forward?

As I said also, I have a friend who will let me use his International 4300 (No sleeper). He would register as the owner and I would be the driver. Would this help?

Or is it possible to "rent" a cargo or box van to get started?

Being proactive is always best to obtain the things in life you want. The old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the grease may be true. Call Landstar to get your answers.

As far as "renting" a cargo van or straight truck, you will be paying for use of that truck whether it is moving or not. I would also suggest that you be upfront with the lessor as to your intentions on using the vehicle - especially if charges include those based on mileage.
